My Backups list suddenly empty!

Thread needs solution

I have ATI 2015 6525.. What went wrong? Yesterday I did a whole system backup...from a backup listed on My Backups list.....perfect...no prob This morning, my incremental backup of important files (files and folders) backup from My Backups list ran fine....suddenly my list of backups is gone. I decided later to change the options for the incremental and run it again...it gave me an error message about "failed to open data stream"..... tried 3x same result even after reboot. Then upon launching Acronis.... My Backups list was empty and remains so. I have read from FAQ etc. to run a reinstall selecting "Repair"...which I have done 2x...still no list I can see all of my backups files on the HD where they are supposed to be....questions are: 1. Can I somehow retrieve My Backups list? 2. Even if I cannot...no big deal...I'll create new ones....BUT, can I recover the old ones if need be? These are the most important questions...but maybe... 3. Or....should I recover my system back through yesterday? 4. Am I not asking the right questions? Thanks for any help, in advance... StLBill

Where, what kind, and how is the backup storage device connected to your computer? If you are using a USB attached drive for example and for some reason the drive letter assignment to that device changes then the application may not be able to find the backup files. Check to make sure this is not the case.

It is usb attached....but I believe the letter is the same...how would I know what it is expecting? Can I change the usb drive designation?
Thank you for the reply...I believe you are on to something maybe....

I found out how to change the drive designation...even thought it was G: and I thought that is what it was earlier....I tried all the available ones before that...e.g. E: and F:........then I launched Acronis anew and it continues to just give me the initial My Backups...default of Entire PC without finding my backups on the USB.

BTW...I did do the Full Backup to another attached drive (spin disk external)....that was attached to the same USB port...but believe I have done this in the past also without difficulty....use the spin disk for the full backup due to size and back up My Documents, Downloads and Desktop to the USB

I take it your backups are not scheduled but rather you use manual or backup now method. When you ran the Whole system backup was the other USB device attached at the time? What option changes did you make to the incremental backup task? The wisdom here on the forum is not to change a task once created.

Do you always use the same USB port for attaching both devices to the machine depending on what backup task you are going to run? What you can try is to shutdown your computer by this I mean to use Windows start menu to shutdown the machine. Unplug the attached device from the USB port on the machine, whichever one that is attached, then restart the computer without the device attached. After the computer starts up and loads startup apps, reconnect one of your devices to the USB port, say the Whole system drive. Now open the Acronis app and see if your backups stored on that device now appear for the appropriate task.

Sorry....responded to the message above by reply instead of to the forum...

I said....
Interestingly.....even though acronis no longer shows me any of My Backups....it is still operating. This morning, it did the modified incremental that I put in last....it is a full every 5 days and an incremental daily (assume the incremental will happen tomorrow as the full happened today...I know it was the new on because I named it differently....but that along with the older ones do NOT show up by name...

So...question is...given that they are there....
1. Would I be able to recover them?
2. There must be somewhere that Acronis stores this information in order to post the filename in accordance with the My Backup name....?

This morning acronis again tried to do a incremental backup, but seemingly failed.....
If you please....answer the two questions above and this final question as well...

3. What if I uninstall or simply reinstall over top of the existing one....would I likely abandon my previous backups forever....or would they still be recoverable?

Thanks

You should be able to recover any backup file residing on your storage device assuming that those backups are not corrupt in some way. The Knowledge Base contains 1 article pertaining to the error "failed to open data stream" that is specific to incremental/differential backups. That article applies to an older version, TI 2011, I would suspect the same condition exists in your case. I am attaching a link to this article below for your reference.

The link below explains how to add an existing backup to your backup list. You should attempt this and if successful I would think that what has gone corrupt is the backup script file and in that case you would be able to recover the backups. If the backup database is corrupt as advised in the article above your backups would not be recoverable and a new task would need be created.

My backup list is also gone. True Image has been working fine since May. Launched it today to do a manual backup to external drive like I normally do. My list of backups for various drives, etc.....the whole list is gone.

I started a new backup, ran it, closed Acronis TI 2015 and re-launched...the new backup (the only one on the list) was gone! Any ideas? This is not acceptable.

I recovered all files in this directory from an (even older) System backup:
C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database\

The scripts seemed to be ok. After that revovery, the list was back again and worked as it should.
