MySql 5.5 ... can I run non stop backup?

Thread needs solution

I am currently using Acronis True Image 2015.  I have a very active database, about 38GB.  Will this work?

Frank, welcome to these user forums.

I can only direct you to the ATIH 2015 User Guide: Using Acronis Nonstop Backup section for a description of this function of the product, and in particular, the statement in the How it works section:

Acronis Nonstop Backup checks file changes on the disk, not in the memory. If, for instance, you are working in Word and do not use the "Save" operation for a long time, your current changes in the Word document will not be backed up.

The reason for pointing out the above is so that you can check how your MySQL handles data changes?  Does this commit those changes to disk or does it hold them in memory?  If the latter, then any changes will only be captured by the Non Stop Backup process after the changes are committed to disk.

I would suggest giving this a try on a backup / test system at first if you have one, to get a better feel for whether this will meet your needs and to check that you do not find any obstacles from system locks on database files etc.

Hi Steve.  As you can see I am still around seeking backup advice.  Although since I posted this thread, I have upgraded to Acronis TI 2018.  I see it offers a "non-stop" backup option, but in my experience, if I try to run it, it locks-up my active Mysql database.  Is there a solution to this?

Frank, please see the responses in your 2018 forum topic.
