NDAS and True Image

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I just bought a Iomega NAS drive. I'm trying to use it with a bootable rescue media (USB thumb drive) created with True Image Home 11. But all I see in TI under Network is a NDAS.
I don't have any of the required information (ID and Write Key) available for the Iomega NAS - or at least I don't know where I could find them. They are not on the case of the drive, by the way.

Is there a way of using the NAS with the rescue media of True Image? Can I somehow connect to one of the shared folders of the NAS?

Regards,
Marco

Hello Marco,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Could you please let me know the build number of the product, which you can find in the Help -> About dialog (it should be a 3 or 4 digit number)?

Actually, each NDAS should have its own key and ID. Could you please clarify the exact model of NDAS you're using?

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Hi,

TI is actually version 10.0 (build 4.942) - sorry mixed up the versions in my first post.

But like I said, the drive is NOT a NDAS. It's a NAS Iomega Home Media Drive.
The question was, if there's a way of using the drive from the Acronis boot environment nevertheless.

Cheers,
Marco

Hello Marco,

Thank you for clarifications!

Yes, the program should not ask for NDAS key in case of simple Network Attached Storage... Could you please download ISO file I sent to you via PM, recreate a CD from it and check if the issue persists?

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Hello Allen,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help. Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

ISOLINUX Bootable Media is usually more up to date than the Acronis Loader one. This is due to the fact a new version of Acronis Bootable Media is uploaded to the website more frequently than regular product updates are released.
ISOLINUX Bootable Media has several boot parameters that may help overcome possible issues with booting. You can also set a specific VGA resolution in the ISOLINUX media if there an issue with the Graphical User Interface (GUI).
You can find the information on how to download the appropriate ISOLINUX file in this article. Please see this article on how to burn an ISO file to a CD disk.

Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawless for you. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

Well, count me in with those others who just stumbled into this problem. (Didn't simple NAS devices use to work with a prior version of Acronis??!!!

My specs:

Acronis True Image Home 2010 Standard Upgrade build #7046
Dual boot: Windows Professional 32bit and Windows 7 Professional 32bit
NAS: Buffalo Technoligies HD-CELU2 with no mention of NDAS keys anywhere!

Now what do i do????

IMHO: !!This problem is a serious pitfall that should be part of the warning pop-up when backing up to a NAS device!!!!!

Hello LookinAround,

Let me assist you.

First of all please download a bootable ISO image from your account, we've updated it recently and it should recognize your NAS drive correctly.

If the issue still persists, please collect Linux System Report, AcronisInfo and submit a support request with the gathered information.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Progress but not success... I think someone didn't test it thoroughly.

I download the new ISO and booted. Acronis starts and does now detect my network drive. However, if I select a any backup to try to Recover or Validate i get an error message to the affect "Can't find Volume xx".

It looks like Acronis keeps Windows file path info within each backup. Is Acronis looking for a file path that is different when booting from Rescue Media??

In any case, I'm anxiously awaiting a fix. Thanks

Hello LookinAround,

It's a known issue with Acronis Recovery CD and it'll be fixed in the next official build of Acronis True Image Home 2010.

If you just click Browse and point to the backup archive again this error won't occur anymore.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.

Thank you.

@Ilya
You said "If you just click Browse and point to the backup archive again this error won't occur anymore."

No, that's not true. When i click Browse, I'm back to the original problem!

When i hit browse I see fixed disks, my CD, along with options for Computers Near me and FTP. My network drive IS NOT LISTED! Tho i do still see a Mount NDAS button tho when i click it, i'm back to getting prompted for an NDAS Key (which is the original problem). Or am I missing something???

Do you guys want to hire me as your system tester? Any idea of when the next bug release will be out? I might find my own work around till then or what else might Acronis suggest? But then again I know my way around computers. I imagine it'll be quite a frenzied fear and chaos for a computer noob when their system crashes and they try recovering from their network drive in the middle of a crisis - but can't. YIKES!

Hello LookinAround,

I'm really sorry for the inconvenience.

In that case please gather the information I have requested in my previous comment and submit a support request. We'll have our Linux Expert to investigate the issue and to provide you with a resolution.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.
