Need Acronis v8

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I've got licensed versions of True Image Plus v10 and Director Suite v10. These are working fine. However, I have an old Acer 312T laptop which is a greal little laptop running Windows 98. I use this for writing. What I want to do install Acronis True Image so that I can back it up. I believe that True Image v8 will work on Win98. Any chance of getting a copy? I know that at one time v8 personal editions were available for free. I won't mind a copy of that if it it will do the job.

Thanks

Mohammed

Have you tried using your TI2010 recovery CD to see if it will do the job? You wouldn't be able to run under W98 but that may not be a big issue for you.
If it works and you want to use it you would need another license to be legal.

Thanks for the replies. I did search on google for that free personal edition but it seems to be long gone. The recovery cd might just work. I'll give that a shot.

But if anyone has that free personal edition v8 which was around a couple of years ago, I would appreciate it.

Have you tried using the TI10 rescue CD to make an image from your laptop?

Whoops sorry Seekforever, somehow I missed your post.

I have TI2016 installed in 2 machines, but have one license left, and need to backup/clone/restore and older win98se machine.  I notice above that the suggestion is to get v8 off the internet, but I've looked and found nothing credible there.  Is there an old version archive on the main Acronis site, or I'd appreciate some direction on where to get it, please?

Thanks, harv.

Harvey, welcome to these user forums.

I personally would not recommend getting Acronis True Image v8 off the internet as there is every possibility that it could contain malware unless you can trust the source 100%.

If all you are wanting to do is to backup / clone an old Windows 98SE system, then you can use your ATIH 2016 bootable Rescue media to do this by booting that system from the rescue media on CD as it will support the file systems that were used with Windows 98.

The alternative would be to remove the hard drive from the Win 98 system and backup / clone this by connecting the drive to one of your systems running ATIH 2016 - you can also get dual bay docking stations that can perform offline cloning of drives.

Thanks Steve for the prompt reply!  I decided to try a TI 2013 Rescue media disk, and it worked well to backup the C:/D: to an external drive.  I think my problem was that the TI 2016 rescue disk was 64bit, that the old machine didn't like.  The 2013 should be 32bit.  Now my TI2013 isn't recognizing the used (IDE) bigger replacement drive, even though it seems to be seen in the BIOS, in "Add Disk".  I may have to find/use another fdisk type program to set up the partitions, but likely those old relic programs again won't work on the 500GB IDE.

Harvey, glad to hear that your ATIH 2013 media worked for doing the backup.  Most of the rescue media should contain both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the Acronis programs where you can choose between which one to use.  There are a number of free Partition manager type programs that you could try with regards to setting up your 500GB IDE drive.  One that I have used is Easeus Partition Manager Free though it is some time since I needed to use it on any IDE drives as most of my systems use SATA drives.
