Need to clone an old HDD from my 2010 macbook on my PC to clone onto new SSD for Macbook.

Thread needs solution

I bought an aData SSD just for this software for this particular purpose.

my Fiance has an older macbook, her entire iTunes library is on that disk but it's old and it's starting to become very slow. I bought a new aData SSD 240gb to replace that old, tired drive. My question is how can I clone it and recover using my PC?

Is it simple, just plug in both SSD's into my main system, backup the partition on the drive and recover onto the new SSD? I ask because PC's can't read the mac's filesystem so that is whats throwing me off. I need to get it done while she's not home plus it would be a nice surprise. Hopefully I'll get an answer soon.

Thanks!

James, currently PC version of Acronis True Image 2016 does not officially support Mac`s file system and we have not tested the use case that you have described. We have an option that enables reading unsupported or unrecognized file systems in raw mode, called "Sector-by-sector". You can enable this setting in advanced backup options. You would then restore it to the new SSD, but as I said that would be unsupported use case and restored Mac may boot successfully and may fail to boot.

If you have a spare drive (USB HDD would be fine), you could complete the task with Acronis True Image 2016 for Mac:

1) install True Image on the older MacBook onto the original SSD

2) create a backup of that SSD, store it on USB HDD

3) create a bootable media

4) replace the older SSD with a new one

5) boot Mac from the bootable media, start Acronis True Image and perform restoration to the new SSD. See more details on booting from bootable media and restoring at https://kb.acronis.com/content/47226. This scenario has been tested and is supported. That way you should be able to migrate the system to the new disk.
