Need Help With Acronis Part Numbers Please?
Hi,
I'm trying to buy a copy of Acronis True Image Home 2011 from Newegg.com, and they have three products that look almost identical, I can't tell what the difference between them is.
The Acronis part numbers for the different products are:
TI-14-DV-RT-W-EN
TI-14-MB-RT-W-EN
TI-14-LB-RT-W-EN
Does anyone have any inside knowledge as to what the difference is between them is?
Thanks

That for you help. Unfortunately this is a larger issue that Acronis really needs to address. I just got an official e-mail from Acronis "help" that was not helpful at all, they said to contact newegg.com for help on this. Newegg.com does not provide that kind of help.
I really fail to understand Acronis' logic on this. Those are MANUFACTURER's part numbers, it is Acronis' responsibility, AS THE MANUFACTURER, to provide an accurate description of THEIR OWN PART NUMBERS.
This problem is even worse in the corporate arena. For the corporate products, You HAVE to buy Acronis' corporate products through a reseller, Acronis will not sell them to me directly, they said I had to go through a reseller. However, when I get a quote for a corporate product from my reseller, it has those same damn inscrutable ACRONIS PART NUMBERS. When I ask the reseller to provide me with Acronis' own description of exactly what that part number MEANS, I was told "Acronis does not provide that information". In other words, they're asking me to buy from a quote that contains a part number I do not understand. On several occasions, it was only through the most painful process imaginable that I determined the part numbers quoted were NOT was I was looking for at all.
Acronis, this is a HORRIBLE BUSINESS MODEL AND YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED. It is not rocket science here people -- just provide a listing of YOUR PART NUMBERS and a plain-english description of what that part number IS. That really shouldn't be too much to ask.
thanks again for your input though.

Ralph,
That seems very strange that you have to buy through a 3rd party reseller. Is this a company policy not allowing you to purchase off the website or are you saying Acronis refuse to sell you corporate products off the online shop?
Careful perusal reveals;
TI-14-DV-RT-W-EN = True Image Home 2011, build who knows!
TI-14-MB-RT-W-EN = This one I suspect is the current special offer where the PP is included for the same price as TIH 2011, although they are offering it $5.00 cheaper.
TIP-14-MB-RT-W-EN = TIH 2011 plus PLUS PACK.
Working backwards, I'd guess that;
EN = English language
W = Windows
RT = Retail packaging
DV/MB = Hmm my guessometer fails here - perhaps MB stands for Momentary Bonus
TI-P-14 = TI including PP.
Try finding your way around Microsoft OS naming conventions - N, V, C - I think N means no Explorer for Europe.
Or
IBM part numbers versus IBM FRU numbers versus IBM region model numbers.

Thanks for your help. I'll buy the cheapest one and keep my fingers crossed. As long it has a real serial number (i.e. it's not an upgrade license) I will be OK with that.
As far as needing to use a reseller to buy their corporate product... it was super confusing to say the least. We were a bit of a special case, but no more so than any other corporation. We were trying to do several things at once -- buy new product, upgrade others, and just get back on maintenance for others -- and our Acronis rep threw up her hands and told us we had to buy through a VAR. It took about six painful iterations of me->VAR->Acronis->VAR->me etc. etc. to finally get the part numbers right. It didn't help that, like I say, no one seemed to be able to give me a plain-english description of what the part numbers they were feeding me actually represented.
And complicating it all even further, on the Acronis end, there was one sales rep for new sales, and a completely different department and rep to handle the maintenance side. So without even getting to the VAR, I already had to deal with TWO different people and two different departments at Acronis.
Acronis really needs to pull their act together. We're standing here ready to drop over $3000 on corporate product, but we're not pulling the trigger because I have zero confidence that I'm actually going to get the product I was looking for, thanks to their bizarre part numbers and a total lack of cross-reference.
Oh, and while I'm complaining, would it be too much for Acronis to hire an interface designer who was born on this planet? The interface just keeps getting worse and worse with each iteration. Maybe they could have a little checkbox that says "Show me the interface that's NOT created for brain-dead newbies" ???
Cheers and thanks much for your help!
