Need help to uninstall ATIH 2012

Thread needs solution

Like many others, following installation of TIH2012 my computer will no longer recognize USB mass storage devices. I contacted help yesterday and the help tech suggested I get a refund and remove the software as it appears there is no fix coming from Acronis (or at least not soon and I need to be able to read and write external disks - like to do backups and such!). So, after reading some articles here it appears that even if I uninstall the product Windows will still not recognize USB mass storage devices. Are there any utilities to help in this process? I've already spent several hours today looking at past forum posts and such and really don't know which path to try. I surely don't want to have to completely nuke my system and start from scratch - reloading all the software is going to take days!

So - I'm running XP sp3, using Acronis TIH 2012 + Plus Pack. How do I rid my computer of this virus?

Thanks in advance!
Mike

Hello Michael,

Thank you for opening a thread regarding this question.

I'm not really sure why the support professional suggested you a refund, because we do have a solution for this situation.

Please download a special drivers update from this KB article. This fix will also be included into the next Acronis True Image Home 2012 update. Please let us know how it went.

I would also appreciate if you could let me know the case number you've opened with support.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you.

Yana:

Thanks for your response. I tried the solution suggested in KB 26026 and it did nothing to help. I have now completely removed ATIH 2012, using the ATIH2012 Cleanup Utility. I also cleaned out all registry entries left behind after uninstalling and cleaning, cleared out all the Acronis startup services as suggested by Richard Virtue - don't recall the thread number but it is listed in my only other post to this user forum. After all of that Windows still does not recognize USB mass storage devices. Mentioning to your on-line support professional that I needed to have the ability to read and write to USB disks (for backups if nothing else) and understanding that Acronis were aware of this problem and that KB article 26026's solution does not work for everyone I asked if the fix Acronis had mentioned is coming (it is listed in known issues after release of build 6154) he said he could not say when that fix might be released. I've heard there is a temporary solution that had been offered to others (mentioned on some of the threads I'd read) so was hoping to give that a try as a last resort before having to completely nuke my OS and reload all of my software. He said he was unaware and suggested I remove the program and get a refund. I removed the program and supposedly a refund is in process - he said six to 10 days. But after un-installing the original problem remains. I'm a pretty level-headed sort and do understand that there is some dark science trickery regarding hardware abstraction layers that Acronis must perform in order to do it's thing, but really, I've never had a virus do as much damage to my system as ATIH 2012 has done. Getting a refund for the software (I think I paid $49 or so) is nothing compared to the several days of work I am now faced with in order to re-build all the software on my computer. I'm holding off hoping some other solution exists so please, if there is a known way to resolve this issue, let me try it!

Thanks!

The thread that descries how to remove Acronis left-overs from the registry is: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/27907 - see post #6 of the thread. Like I said, unfortunately I still do not have use of USB mass storage devices.

I too suffer from this USB not recognized issue with ATI 2012. I have followed the KB (http://kb.acronis.com/content/26062) instructions and it helped somewhat. Before my USB mass storage devices did not detect at all, at least now they work somewhat better. But even after installing the snapapi_virtualdisk.zip still with some USB devices I have to "eject" them once and only with second plugging of the USB device the device is detected properly in Windows.

Let's just say that ATI 2012 will be the last Acronis product I dare to buy without serious researching about known issues.
