Need info to help me decide to upgrade to TI 2013 or stay with v.10

Thread needs solution

I own licenses for Acronis TI 6 & 10, & am considering upgrading to 2013. Version 10 seems to do a good enough job doing what I bought it for -- backup. I have several questions the answers to which will help me decide if I need to upgrade to v. 2013. 1. Is running v. 10 a security risk re: routine internet use, i.e., in using internet is it likely that a hacker could take advantage of my use of TI v.10, an end-of-life product? I have heard that merely having an older program on one's system could open possibilities for exploitation when one surfs internet, or simply with an open DSL connection, as I have, despite my using a NAT router which functions as hardware firewall & I'm behind a software firewall also. I don't know enough about how hackers & their scanning devices could penetrate my system, but I'm concerned about security. 2. Will v2013 slow my system down significantly, with the new bells & whistles added since v.10? I use WinXPPro, sp3, with 1.6 GHz AMD Athlon+ cpu & 1.5 GB ram. I don't plan to upgrade windows because I'm going with Linux Mint 15 as my main OS. Since I have several Windows-specific programs that I still want to use, I will still use XP, minus internet connection for security, regularly. Of course, I'd still use TI to backup my system. 3. Had a problem loading TI Startup Manager that can be started at every boot; only thing that saved me so I could restore a disk image was the Media Builder which I had installed onto CD. Have you fixed glitches in StartUP Manager? Your answers will help me to decide if I need to upgrade a 2nd time, this time to v.2013. Thank you.

If you want help, please consider the folks who must read your post. Use short, clear sentences or bullet points, and break thoughts into proper paragraphs. One solid block of text with long sentences, some of which contain descriptions of what happened while some are your thoughts on the matter, is not readily readable nor understandable.

If you are behind a hardware and a software firewall and you have secured your wireless connection, an anti-virus etc., you should not have to worry about ATI V10 :-)

. Stick with v10 if it works for you.

The startup manager is not a good feature, IMO, anyway. Stay away from using it. Use your recovery CD. Glitches had been fixed, but now that GPT/UEFI/Windows 8 config are very common, things are all changing again...

IMO, you are just fine with v10.

This is the answer. So long as you stay with XP, and v10 does what you want, just leave well enough alone.

Still the grammar police, I see. His post was certainly more useful than yours.. I don't know why the forum moderators are still letting you bully people in here..

Hardly bullying, just advice to help a poster learn how best to obtain help in public forums. No different than many such forums.

The guy asked some great questions and he even numbered them so they would stand out from each other.. I didn't have any trouble reading it and obviously Pat L didn't have any trouble reading it.. Either help him or don't.. There's no reason to go out of your way to launch a personal attack on his writing skills just because it's not formatted the exact way YOU like it.

And what does this have to do with Acronis? Well, I'll tell you.. in spite of the fact that I detest the software and have unsubscribed numerous times to their emails, they keep spamming me with email to buy the "upgrade". I figured I'd hop over here and see what people were saying about it and boom.. there's Tuttle launching off-topic, personal attacks against people and the moderators letting it happen.. just like it was a year ago when I left this place for the exact same reason.

Why should I buy software from a company that let's stuff like this go on in their support forums? We come here for help, not insults.. and Acronis keeps turning a blind eye to it (but only for certain people). This is the most unfriendly support forum of any software I have ever owned and I don't care that I will get booted for saying so (Russian censorship at it's finest) because I have no intention of ever coming back.. but I had to say something because I hate it when some poor person comes looking for help just to be attacked by the grammar police.

Good luck with your anger/control issues.

That is clear from your earlier posts.

Roger, one or two of your threads were deleted due to inappropriate language and treatment of other forum users, and you argued with other MVPs when they tried to assist you. You changed your username, perhaps to disguise yourself while you continued your angry posts. I see no good reason why you're back here again.

If you have a complaint about Acronis mailings, please contact them.

Oh, how quickly we forget (or only sweep it under the rug). Those post you speak of were started by me, but the inappropriate language and infighting was amongst other users.. of whom I have no control. And yes, Acronis was contacted numerous times by several people (if the PMs I received are to be believed) and every time Acronis gave you a pass for things that others were getting banned for (and before you start seeing black helicopters, I only used the two usernames.. I switched to my common username that is shared with Amazon for review purposes).

And my beef with the product stays the same.. I am unfortunately married to it and stuck not only with its bugs, but also with the arrogance in which not only their support department works under, but in which this forum seems to thrive.

It is absurd to rerate a newby looking for help just because they don't type the way you like.. it's insulting and a huge turn-off to the majority of the population (and I think that the fact that the one of the absolute most active unofficial posts that ever has been on this board was filled with people saying the same thing is proof enough of that). I, personally, don't get off on watching "high-horsers" make themselves feel more important by throwing insults at people for being different.. it's called bigotry and yes, I'll stand up to it every time I see it because there's too much of it in the world as it is.
