NEED MOST GENERAL ADVICE

Thread needs solution

Hi, Chaps

I need the the most general advice as to which Acronis product I should take, if any, for my purposes.
Still running Win XP on a IBM Lenovo T-61 machine (MBR), I'm planning to migrate onto a newer machine (GPT)
preferably running Win 7 or else Win 10 anyway.

The matter is the old machine runs over 160 programs installed.

I would like to transfer them all onto a newer machine without re-installation.

First, I'd like to at least make a disk image of the old HDD. Supposing the old machine does not support booting from a USB port, I would like to make that HDD image from a running machine.

However, the most software for XP requires to have a live CD or the like in order not to have opened or system files on the HDD to be imaged.

Can any Acronis software help in my case? Or should I turn to any other software?

Thanks for any ideas.

Please see KB 19296: Acronis products cannot be used to transfer applications to different system or upgrade OS

Migrating your entire Windows XP to a new laptop is likely to be very difficult to achieve due to modern hardware components which do not have any supported XP device drivers.

Upgrading the current Lenovo T61 laptop to Windows 7 or 10 may also be a challenge depending on the actual hardware in the laptop, plus it is likely that some of your installed applications will no longer work on the newer Windows OS, especially 10.
