Need too much room for backup. ?workaround

Thread needs solution

I do a full backup of a 500 gig drive every 2 weeks. It is supposed to overwrite the last backup. It won't do that unless there is 500 EXTRA gb free in addition to the file being overwritten. If there isn't that extra 500 gb free space, the backup fails. It needs it for a temp file. This is ridiculous... and wasn't the case in past versions. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a workaround?

Stephen,
I don't know of a workaround. TI will not delete backup 1 until after backup 2 is completed so you need dual space.

Perhaps you can use the exclusions option to not include some large files or folders to you can keep it under your size limit or maybe try greater compression which will slow backup time.

You could create a batch file that deletes the backup before the new one start, and run this batch as a pre-command. Of course, there is a risk you would be without a backup for a while.

The simplest approach is to delete any TIB file in the directory before ATI creates the new file:
del F:\*.tib /q
where you have to replace F: with the right letter.

You can use this command to be the pre-commend, in advanced options of the backup settings

You have to try
The command is del, or del F:\*.tib
The arguments are F:\*.tib /q, or /q respectively
Working directory could be c:\Windows\System32, but I am not sure this one is required

If this doesn't work, launch notepad, type del F:\*.tib /q, save as clean.cmd in DirectoryX , this becomes your command and working directory, no argument
