New 2014 over 2011 causing recovery issue
Have just installed 2014 full version over previous 2011 install.
Have upgraded HTPC hardware & OS over Xmas. OS is Win7 Home Premium 64 bit (previously, WinXP).
Have completed backup with no apparent issues.
tried to recover my last 2011 image, but upon reboot, it loads the Linux? drivers & hangs. The last line is:
md: raid4 personality registered for level 4.
Please bear in mind I am not a PC expert, but self-taught mid level with no cli experience, so any responses in plain English would be greatly appreciated.
The reason for my upgrade in the first place was to avoid similar, but not same problem.
What next???????????

Is this when using the recovery Cd/USB or the reboot from within Windows?

Thanks for reply. Reboot from within Windows.
Will Try the Recovery Manager, but will assume similar, as it was with 2011 version. Will post back pronto.

Similar issue using Recovery Manager, but different command lines when it hangs:
raid6: using algorithm sse2x2 (12902 MB/s)

gkar,
Just to double check, when you say 'Recovery Manager' are you referring to the recovery Manager True Image can install on the PC or a recovery CD?

The highlighted one.
Is there anything else you require to assist with diagnosing the issue, to minimise the resolution?

gkar,
You need to make a recovery CD or USB stick as that is more flexible than Windows rebooting into the Linux environment. There are command line parameters that can be used with the external option as well as the fact Windows can't interfere as it was never started in the first place.
Having said that, you might have a driver problem. Did you ever try booting your machine from the 2011 recovery environment and if you did, did it work OK?
If you are unable to use TI to make the recovery CD/USB stick, there will be an ISO version that can be downloaded from your Acronis account and either burnt to a CD or by using something like RMPREP boot the ISO directly.
If the CD won't boot your system, the first thing to try is changing everything in your BIOS to boot from Legacy devices and possibly if you have a UEFI system disable it and reenable when ready to boot into Windows.
If this still fails, then as I mentioned there are some parameters that can be entered into the kernel as the environment boots. Once one is found that works, this can then be burnt into the CD/USB version, but it can't be burnt into the version that is on your hard drive which is the version you have been using.
If the 2011 version boots your system, then we know it is a driver issue, in wich case you need to contact Acronis Support, provide them with a system report and ask them to make a special recovery version for you. There is no charge at present for recovery problems.
In the user Guide there is a list of the various parameters that can be entered.

I had already done that. The default CD can boot into the recovery environment. I am hesitant to attempt a recovery from either a 2011 backup, or 2014 image, in case my PC becomes unbootable, until this issue can be resolved.

Are you referring to the environment opened with the bootable CD? If so, yes, it did boot correctly. Though, I never attempted a recovery from an existing image.

Are you referring to a bootable CD? Or the ability to access True Image from within Windows? Because this is what I paid for, & I expect the programme to be fully functional.

gkar,
All recoveries that relate to either the system disk or OS partition should always be started from the recovery CD or USB stick. I know Acronis don't say this in their user guide, but the reboot into Linux available from within Windows is normally fine if the disk or partition that is being recovered is data only media.
However, in your case if the recovery from within Windows worked with 2011, then it is possible installing 2014 hasn't overwritten the media files correctly. In which case manually delete the Acronis files that appear under the common files\acronis folder and then run a repair install of 2014.

The last line you refer to: "md: raid4 prsonality registered for level 4" is a linux message. I am not that familiar with linux however a google search yielded a possible kernel version error. In simple terms it is possible that TI 2011 and TI 2014 use different versions of the linux kernel. System hangs and boot issues have been witnessed when attempting to load raid configuration data when that data was originally written by one version of a linux kernel and then is attempted to be ran or used by a different or later version the linux kernel.
It could be that since you are attempting to restore a backup produced by TI 2011 using TI 2014 that when loading the raid data the 2014 kernel hangs. This of course depends on if in fact 2011 and 2014 use different linux kernels which I think would be quite likely and if in fact you are attempting to restore a 2011 backup using 2014.
Hope this helps.

That sorted the problem.
I have recovered both newly saved & 2011 images.
Thanks for all your assistance, it is hugely appreciated.
I would strongly recommend , in your {semi?}-official capacity to go back to Acronis & get them to add upgrading options with a recommendation to manually uninstall any prior versions before upgrading. If that was stipulated in an obvious readme file, I would have used it, as I do it, if it is recommended, before installing any software. Thanks again.
