New Hard Drive Coming?

Thread needs solution

I've used Acronis products for years on multiple machines - but have always performed full system backups and restores (when needed) from a big old external hard drive. But currently I have a failing (but not yet) hard drive and an already failed Bluetooth card that will both be replaced under warranty by a Dell hired technician making a house call in a few days They tell me that the new hard drive will arrive with a fresh version of Win (64) 7. I'm concerned about the backup - new territory for me. I want all of my programs, documents, settings, emails etc. etc. restored on the new hard drive but not the old operating system. Can you provide me some guidance please. Does any one see any issues that might crop up with a new fixed drive?

If the new drive will have a different OS than what you have currently, then of course you wouldn't want to restore a full disk backup. You could simply restore, or just copy over, your user data files to the new drive. You will have to install your applications in the usual manner.
