New Install

Thread needs solution

<Just got a new WD Hard Drive with ATIH 2013hd that came with it, what do I actually have.   Seems like a lot of things cant be used w/o an upgrade. I just want to backup the existing Hitachi HD to the new WD.  I will be doing a new Win 10 clean install  soon to my OCZ SSD (C) and plan to backup the new OS  using Acronis to my new WD. Can I backup both the Hatachi that only has all my Files like My documents, My Pictures etc etc, to a separate partition like "G" the drive which it is now and the New win 10 "C" to a separate backup.  I usually keep all my files off my "C" drive on the Hitachi.  My objective is to have both the OS "C"  on the WD, the "G" which is in a bay in the PC on the WD using Acronis to transfer both.  The WD which will be"R"  since the bad drive it is replacing is "R" which is in a Ext case with its own power switch so it is off most of the time. For clarification I will have 2 backups "G" & "R". The  "G" drive will not have the OS>

Joe,

The ATI2013 "free" version you have is limited, but it is capable of doing the multiple backups you intend to do.  However, one of the limitations that the free version has is it can only perform full backups...no incremental backups and no differential backups.

The big complication you have is Acronis has not certified ATI2013 for compatibility with Win 10.  The only versions that Acronis have cetified for Win 10 are ATI2015 and ATI2016.  So, depending on how soon you plan to install Win 10, it may be better to upgrade to ATI2016 now, and have a fully functioning backup program ready for your upgrade to Win 10.  When Win 10 is installed as an upgrade, the recommended procedure is to uninstall all Acronis products prior to the upgrade.  Since you are performing a clean install, this will not be a problem.  However, I would recommend when you do the Win 10 install, run Win 10 for a couple of days & boot cycles and make sure you are happy that everything is working properly...internet connection, printer, etc.  When you are convinced Win 10 is stable, then install ATI2016.

I hope this helps, and answers your questions.

Joe,

Another recommendation...download the user document for ATI2013 and if you decide to upgrade to ATI2016, download the user document for it.  Good information in both.

Thank You for your input.  That is what I thought about the what it will do.  I follow The Computer Geeks Newsletter and they started some time before the Win 10 release of providing practically step by step info on many if not all aspects of Win10 & how to use it, much good info that I have saved to my own Win 10 File. Looks like if Acronis  is to be of any use I will need to upgrade to 15 or 16 as I don't like to have to backup everything all the time, only what is needed or new to a Drive.
