New PC, how to transfer data ?

Thread needs solution

Hello,
my old pc is on Windows XP and I will now buy a new one with Windows 7.
From my old pc I have made a complete data save with True Image home 2010, all is now saved on an external harddisk.
How can I now transfer the saved data from the external harddisk onto the new pc, how do i have to proceed.
Thanks for your help, regards,
Fredy

It depends on a lot of things, including what you are calling "data." IF these are just documents, pics, mp3s, and such, you can just copy them to where youwant them.

If these are program files, then you need to install the programs in the new location.
If system files, you need to install the system.

IF you wanted to backup a disk from one pc and restore it to another, you'd have to use sysprep to take out all themachine specific stuff and then load new drivers etc. after you do the restore. Or us the universal restore prog from Acrdonis.

I you backed up selected files, and these only inlcude docs, pics, etc, then you can restore them to the same or diff locations on the target dis -- that's your option in ATI --- or you can open/mount the backup with explorer and copy out files to your choice of target locations.

The best way to do the restore of a backup is to boot using the ATI bootCD, and following the menus to do a restore, selecting the backup (tib) file you want to restore and selecting the backup options, etc.
