What OS?

What processor does the Chronos use?

Does the Chronos use a BIOS or UEFI?

Hardware depends on the model.

i5, i7 64 bit processors are common.

The newest models use GPT and UEFI on the Windows 8 models.

Most newer models have AMD Radeon™ HD 8870M Graphics adapters

Thanks James,

I think the Linux kernel has a problem with some hardware on your laptop.

Have you run chkdsk /r on your internal drive when in Windows? I don't think this is the cause of your problem, but it at least ticks disk accerss problems off the list.

If you can boot with the recovery CD and press the F10 button just after the first boot loader starts, you should get to a DOS like screen and see the word QUIET.... , delete the word quiet and continue booting, at some point if the Linux kernel and drivers are the problem, the text you see will stop scrolling up the screen, and th epoint at which it stops may point to the piece of hardware that is causing the recovery environment to fail.

You might also want to check that in the BIOS you have a legacy setting, this also may help.

It is possible that you will either have to put in a support request and ask Acronis to make you a recovery CD specific to your machine or purchase the Plus Pack and make a WindowsPE version of the recovery environment.

great, how do i put in a support request, i cant live without backing up this beast :) are you referring to the acronis cd when you say press f10 ? btw it is windows 8, and it does have the radeon chip, its the 770 model

David,

Log into your Acronis account, click on support, select TI2013 from the product list and then decide if you want to use Chat or email. I would suggest running the Acronis report from within Windows so that you can provide Acronis with the information required straight away.
