newbie question

Thread needs solution

Forgive an extremely basic question! When I back up with Acronis True Image, does the backup include the programs on my computer? I'm about to move everything from an old to a new computer and would like to transfer some programs that I have on the old one. Thanks!

Yes.

Check out the many user guides and tutorials in the left margin of this forum, particularly Getting Started and Grover's True Image Guides which are illustrated with step-by-step screenshots.
In particular, 29618: Grover's new backup and restore guides http://forum.acronis.com/forum/29618
There's also a full on-line user manual, and a downloadable user manual.

P.S. Just noticed you plan to move from old PC to new PC. If new PC is a different operating system, e.g Windows 7 64-bit while old one was WinXP or Windows 7 32-bit, you will need to reinstall your programs. Also, as new PC is different hardware, even if the same OS you'd need ATI Premium to do a Universal Restore to dissimilar hardware. I'd rather install clean, and use ATI to backup and restore your user data and from then on to backup your new PC.

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my question. I appreciate it.

As you suspected, I am moving to a different system (from XP to Windows 7) so I'll do as you suggest: use ATI to backup and restore my user data and from then on to backup my new PC.

Kind regards
David

You're welcome.
