Newbie True Image 9 Recovery Question

Thread needs solution

I have True Image 9 and made a complete backup of my Windows 98SE machine. How do I recover just my pictures from the backup onto my xp laptop?

I'm not sure if ver.9 has the feature where Windows Explorer is able to explore an Image. Have you installed ver.9 on the XP laptop? Where is the Backup being kept?
You might try downloading the Trial of the latest, ver 2010, install it on the Xp laptop and it will let you use Windows Explorer to look into the Backup Image - and then you can copy your pics on to the Xp laptop.

Yes, I had ver 9 on the laptop. I removed the ver 9 and installed the 2010 as you suggested. The backup is on 9 CD-R's which are labeled 1-9. Where can I find step by step instructions on how to use the 2010 to get just the pictures?

Copy the files from the CDs on to a folder on the laptop then just double click on the first file and it should present you with a single icon of the C drive just as if you were using windows explorer. Drill down to where your pictures are kept.

BTW, is the 98SE machine no longer available?

The 98SE desktop is still available, but I don't want the system re-installed all over again, but I will do it if that is the only way to get the pictures back. I have a backup of just my pictures on some zip disks but one of the volumes is missing. Is there a way to recover when one volume is missing? I used the true image 9 to make the backup and it was not incremental.

It's been a long long time since I used zip disks so I don't have the answer to that. But after you copy all the files from the CDs to a folder, and with 2010 installed, you should be able to find the pictures from the Backup Image.

Another option is to remove the drive from the 98SE system and put it in an usb enclosure, if you have one. Then connect to the laptop.

Thank you for all your help. I recovered the pictures from the zip disk today with the Acronis 9. I think most of the pictures I had on the full backup were on the zip disk as well. I will check that when I recover the photos to the laptop from the CD-R's. Thanks again
