No boot disk

Thread needs solution

I have been backing up my system using True Image 2011 for some years. This week my hard disk failed andI have bought a new one from Dell. According to the manual the TI2011 install disk should act as a boot disk but it does not. If it is faulty how can I reinstall my whole system. I can get another boot disk but what do I do then

Which version of Windows? Have the TI Recovery CD ever booted in the past?

The Bios needs to be instructed to boot into the CD/Device. Sometimes this is as easy as pressing the ESC key and choosing the cd/dvd player. Or, if computer normally boots into UEFI mode, you may need to temporarily enable the booting into legaacy mode during the Acronis booting mode, and reverse the changel, after restoration, before booting into Windows.

The TI Recovery CD should boot into Acronis Recovery Mode wherby you have about 15-30 seconds to make a menu choice to boot into Acronis Recovery Mode. If no choice made within the few seconds alloted, the system will default back into default back into booting into Windows giving the appearance of no boot menu being offered. Pay close attention during bootup.

It is possible to download a new CD Recovery file. This is illustrated in my signature link #9, picture 7 inside that link.
This link can also help.

Review my signature link #3, item 2 inside that link. Once you have your system booted into the TI Recovery CD, this restore guide can help.

Thanks for that. As I had lost my hard disk I had no internet access but managed to get a friend to download and burn a recovery CD for me. I have now put this in my PC and successfully booted. My next problem is that I cannot see my backup. They are stored on a WD external drive connected to my PC by an ethernet cable through my router. The TI2011 software does not seem able to see this. Any ideas?

Try using a usb2 cable and connect the WD directly to your pc. Once attached via usb,you can browse to the storage folder.

Hello John, Grover,

We assume you have booted into the recovery environment successfully. Where are you looking for your back ups? Steps you performed? The NAS should appear under the "Computers Near Me" heading when expanded. Detection can take a few seconds sometimes.

If you don't see it appear.... start typing its IP or host name into the path field..... examples

\\xxIPxx\Acronis\Backups....
\\WDMyBook\FilePath\ToYour\BackUp\Directory...

And an authentication window should appear. If you aren't getting this far, we will need more information about your environment. Network, etc. Your machine needs to be connected to the same network as the NAS so it receives an IP and can "talk" to the storage device where the back up resides.

OK. I have now managed to connect using IP address. Starting to recover so thanks very much

Thanks Rick. Two heads better than one.:)

GH,
I'm just following your lead :o)
