No email notification for scheduled backup failure

Hi,
I'm using TIH 2015 to do a scheduled image backup of a Windows 8.1 laptop to an external USB hard drive. The backup was supposed to occur last night, but I forgot to connect the USB hard drive to the laptop. This morning I expected to see an email notification stating the task had failed, but there wasn't one. In the Disk Backup Options for Additional Notification Settings I have "Send notification upon operation failure" checked.

I have another laptop that is using TIH 2013 for scheduled backups with an external hard drive, and because the hard drive wasn't connected to it last night the backup failed. I did receive an email stating that the task failed. Is there a problem with TIH 2015 error notifications or is there something else I have to set in the options to make it work? Thanks in advance for your help.
