No luck working with REV 120GB USB drive and TI 2010 - not showing up as a destination location
Has anyone had any success using with this software with an Iomega 120GB USB REV drive? Support for this product is abismal! If you can even get through to them, they are clueless when it comes to this combo. Compatibility is listed on their website and Iomega's site lists native support for the REV drive with version TI 11 and above.
To be honest, this is the single worst support experience I've ever had with a software vendor and I've been in IT for almost 20 years. This is my last attempt to get this combo working as advertised before I move on.
If I can't resolve this, I will be sure to let everyone know how miserable my experience has been with Acronis.
I bought this based on web reviews and tried to get pre-sales support before I actually buying the product. But even that was futile, which should have clued me in to how lame Acronis support is.
And on top of that, I just registered the product and was informed that free support would be available until Feb 15th. Then when I tried to contacting support, I was informed that my free support period had already expired and I would have to pay a per incident charge. WTF?!?
I don't see how this company is still in business and I will do my best to inform users how poorly they support their products so that others don't get burned.

Acronis Support has finally admitted that this is a known issue and will need to be addresses in a future build. Do they not test these things before listing compatibility? Apparently so. My free 30-day support expires next week, so I am not hopeful there will be a solution soon.
not impressed and will seek out alternatives that actually work as advertised.
I will post back if the ever get it working.

Hello Matt,
We're terribly sorry for the difficulties you've experienced with Acronis True Image Home 2010.
Indeed, there's a known issue with Iomega REV drive recognition and Acronis True Image Home 2010. Our developers are already aware of the issue, we have all necessary information and the fix will be available in the next official build of the software. Unfortunately, I can't tell you the time frame when that new build will be available.
We'll appreciate if you wait for the next build.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Thank you.

That sounds hopeful as I have a support ticked in for a similar problem with True Image 2010 and 120 GB Iomega Rev drives. (Case 00500360 and Case 00508610).
What I find surprising and not so hopeful is that for the 120 GB version of the Iomega Rev drive this has been an issue since the version of True Image after v11 and it's still not fixed!?

Hello Matt,
I use Acronis products from years (home and server version), to start from True Image Echo Server. Since Acronis created B & R 10 and the Home version 2009 and later, I did not see a program that works well in its basic functions (historical problem on the first B & R 10 that do not send email notification and for which I have indicated to Acronis Italy workarround and for this I received mention - I would have preferred change the mention with quickly solve and not in few months).
Hello Matt and Gene
Unfortunately, every year Acronis creates a new version without first resolving all the errors in old version and so happens that today, in TI HOME 2010 there is the same mistake in TrueImageServerEcho.8398: I can not write to folders in a REV!.
Just for information, I sent to Acronis this issue: "my folder choice is correctly set (see below, figure 1) but when I confirm with "Proceed" button, TIH 2010 lost my choice and "@user@" variable (see below, "To file field", figure 2). The backup works fine but the file is stored in root directory. I think that this issue will be correct in the future. For your information, it's the same problem present in TrueImageServerEcho.8398_s_uk.exe".
Acronis say with support case#00662089. Today I not solved issue. I hope in the future.
Have a nice days
Best Regards
Pierluigi Baudrino

I gave up on True Image supporting the 120 GB REV drive several months ago and went searching for another similar backup program to use. I was rather surprised to discover that about the only people supporting the REV drives is Iomega and their partners, every one else seems to be either unaware of it or just ignoring it.
So I decided to switch the backup media, I sold off my REV drive and all it's disks after sanitizing them and bought a Seagate 1 TB Free Agent USB hard drive which works perfectly with True Image.
The REV drive was a nice product and worked well, its design was flawed though in that it required specific support from software to be usage. Lesson learned, stick to standards that everyone supports.

Hello all,
Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.
The latest builds (build #7046 of Acronis True Image Home 2010 and build # 11639 of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10) support Iomega REV Drives.
Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 and Acronis True Image Home 2010 can only back up to the root of Iomega REV drive. As a workaround, specify the root of Iomega REV drive in Where to back up section.
Please see this article for more information.
If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other questions do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.
Thank you.
