Non stop backup not working

Thread needs solution

I installed the latest version of non-stop backup on my windows 7 64bit system. The nonstop backup cant create the initial image of the protected partitions. Furthermore nonstop backup is turned of. If I, without rebooting then turn on nonstop backup, i get a BSOD. After the reboot I can start nonstop backup again, but it again stops with the image of the creation of the image.

Is there a solution for this?

Also my normal backups are not working. While im reading trough this forum I see that a lot of users are having these problems with the software. Starting from the beginning of 2009. I hope there will be a new release soon or else people with problems are given a copy of the new version. I mean, having a backup system that does not run (and in fact, I discovered it when I needed it this week) is terrible. We trust on your software and it should work.

This is the email I got from the backup software with the error

Hello Patrick,

Thank you very much for reporting the issue in the forum.

My name is Slava and will do my best do address your concerns with Acronis software. I have carefully analyzed the log message you had provided and here is what I`ve found out.

MFT bitmap is corrupted message tells that there is an issue with file system corruption. Could you please do the following?

1. Select Start - Run - cmd

2. Issue the following command: chkdsk /r /f

3. This may require reboot

4. Open the window Tools & Utilities - Options - Backup options - Error handling

5. Check the option Ignore bad sectors

This way the program will try to save as much as possible of healthy disk space, while not interrupting its work.

6. Try to run backup operation again Please, let me know if this resolved the problem.

If it not helps, please, contact Acronis Support with screenshots of the error message and the output of AcronisInfo utility. Please, see this article for instructions on how to create it.

You can read more about the usage of the Nonstop Backup feature in the built-in Help file (pressing F1 when you are in the program) in the chapter Backup - Nonstop Backup

Hi Slava,

I did what you asked. There were no bad sectors on my disk. The normal backup did run last sunday, so im kind of protected. The main problem is that the non-stop backup still doesn't run. I attatched the acronisinfo zip.

Patrick,

It's broke! Give up. Hopefully, Acronis will patch ATI 2010. I have gotten at least 40 BSoDs from Nonstop backup. My advice:

1) If NSB stops, do NOT attempt to restart it. Do NOT attempt to stop the NSB service, either!

2) Delete all the active and storage partitions that NSB uses. Then, reboot your computer. Try starting NSB from scratch using the NSB panel and reenter the partition information.

3) If it fails, just leave it. Reboot your computer as needed.

4) Rinse and Repeat on occasion.

Regards,

Don

Ill try the deletion of the partition. I hope that it works, but I really don't like the solution. It would be even worse if I have to do this more often to keep the product "working"

I paid good money for this software because I wanted to support the developer. But then I expect a good working product. So I hope a patch becomes available soon (because I believe that more people have the same problem). If there is not going to be a patch, I hope that the 2010 customers will get a free update to 2011. The main reason for me to buy acronis was the non-stop backup.
If there is no patch or update Im going to look for an other backup sollution or checkout a torrent site for the 2011 version. This is Illegal, I know, but maybe it gives me a working version of something I paid for.

the data drive that is backuped has still 131GB free out of 432GB and the backup drive still has 1.07TB out off 1.36. Should be enough dont you think ......

Maybe not. NSB creates a ton of 1 GB+ files with a *.data extension in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory. Right now I am attempting a NSB backup and those files alone are consuming 154 GB of my harddrive space. Might be a good idea when you are "starting fresh" to delete those files after removing your protected and storage partitions in the ATI 2010 NSB setup panel but BEFORE starting NSB again (after rebooting, of course!)

NSB shouldn't be putting the files inthe system 32 directory. Did you choose the partition or folder for storage?

My system32 is just the normal size it should be.
I choose the z drive (my external harddisk) as location for the storage. I gave Acronis the toplevel, not a folder.
