Nonstop Backup (runs out of space)

Thread needs solution

How much space is required to use nonstop backup?
I run out of space no matter how much I have.

I've been using ATI WD Edition for several years maybe. to back up system images.
this has been flawless, and have restored several systems on new hard drives, etc...
Everthing has worked great until I recently upgraded my WD Edition so I can use Nonstop backup.
this is the one and only reason for upgrading.

My OS Partition is a (1.3TB) RAID0 on 3/500GB Western Digital Blacks 32MB Cache,
Usage on the Drive is (245GB). A Regular System Image is 180GB.

Using the 320GB(298GB) respectively the drive runs out of space after I run Clean Up.
It seems running cleanup is what uses up the free space.
So to test how much space is needed, I ran Nonstop Backup on 931GB RAID0,
the Backup grew to over 400GB and ran out of space. (Due to I have 465GB already used)
Rather wait for the drive to crash, I stopped NSB, and deleted the (Time Explorer Storage) folder.

Is there some problem here?
Do I need a 3TB hard drive to run Nonstop Backup?

There is not much configuration settings to make a mistake here.
Any ideas, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, or overlooking something.

I have attached snapshots of DiskMan, and Acronis True Image

I had to shut it down, keeps crashing explorer

Uninstall ATI, use the Acronis True Image Cleanup Utility. Follow the instructions carefully. Then reboot the computer and reinstall your upgrade without installing first the WD edition.

There is no reason why the NSB should grow much bigger than a regular image backup the first time around.

I'll give it go,

Thanks for the tip..

True Image 2014 Upgrade will not install without a Previous Version Serial Number.
Otherwise it will only Install if the WDv14192.exe , or WDv165958.exe is already installed.

Unless there is a serial number somewhere, I dont know.
I guess I can log into Western Digital website, and see if there is a key there.
but as long as I have a Western Digital Drive on my computer the WD edition will install.

I've attached an image of the 2 boxes where it asks for my key, and previuos key.
my key has been typed in to show the second box.

Contact Acronis support so that they can help you with your upgrade.

Just curious, but does having the old version installed first cause the issue?
My upgrade installs fine as long as I have the WD edition installed first.

they should give us a Serial Number if this is causing issues.

It is hard to say with a feature like NSB. The OEM versions like WD are often one or 2 versions older than the latest ATI product. I cannot tell you for sure that a clean install would solve your problem...

I have emailed support, and left this link..

Ohh well actually its a live chat I believe

The required drive space is (Usage) x 1.2
in my case 245GB x 1.2 = 294GB. so I'm 4GB above the recommended space.
but it used over 400GB on the 1TB Raid.

They recommended I install the latest WD Version, then Upgrade to latest upgrade version,
Which is where I was already ,

However, I may have installed v16.0.0.5958, over v13.0.0.14184,
then Upgraded on top of that. (Maybe this is the issue?)

I have been using it for a long time.
so After I get installed, and start Nonstop Backup, if the problem persists they want me to give them the log files.

I have uninstalled Acronis, I will install all new versions, and use the cleaner.

So we will see in a couple of days,
I'll report back here with the outcome, for future reference

Thanks for the replies Pat.

I just want to Note:

I installed Acronis True Image 2013 Western Digital Edition v165958.
I then installed Acronis True Image 2014 Upgrade v176673.
As per Acronis Tech Support.
As soon as installation was complete, I waited a few, clicked start program, and it crashed windows explorer, but instantly recovered.

-------

Starting Nonstop backup on 320GB hard drive.......

Crashed again, but quickly freed up 108GB, now it's calculating again.
see what happens.

I am running out of ideas:
- run chkdsk /f on the target disk
- make sure there is no system protection turned on on that disk (Windows would try to create shadow copies). Although I am not sure why ATI's space estimates would be able to anticipate this.

A support ticket has been started with Acronis Support.
Snapshots, and System report has been uploaded for investigation.
