Nonstop backup is stopped
Hello all,
I have an odd problem, not sure how to solve it.
It all started when I noticed that the Acronis icon in my taskbar says that "Nonstop backup is stopped". I was unable to get it going again. I figured an easy fix would be to just delete the backup and make a new one. The backup is on a seperate disk which has plenty of space (500gb free, while the documents to backup are perhaps 100gb). However after I pick nonstop backup and select the folders to watch, it just does nothing and the icon still says "Nonstop backup is stopped". I tried restarting and rebooting but nothing.... any thoughts?

I have a very similar situation. After upgrading to 2012, I deleted my old Nonstop Backup set and started a new one from scratch.
I want to back up 2 folders totalling 600GB and 440K files. These are media files that I edit (mp3 tag change for instance) causing slight file changes that are better backed up by Nonstop than by File Backup, since Nonstop only records the changes and not the full file everytime a minor change occurs.
The problem is that Nonstop hangs while performing the backup, with its tray icon showing an "x" symbol and saying that it has "stopped". It is however frozen and only normalizes after a reboot, when it resumes but first taking several hours before start copying anything (I think veryfying the incomplete backup and figuring out where to resume from) and freezes again in this process.
I tried deleting the incomplete backup and starting from zero but the pattern repeats itself. I tried disabling anti-virus/firewall but no change.
It seems like it is overflowing with the amount of data it is trying to process, rendering Nonstop useless.
Running Win7 x64

Sorry for the late reply, I did it before but I forgot to reply.
The non stop backup service in services.msc was not stopped, so I started it and then the stop and start button in the program was back, I was able to start the nonstop backup and everything went as normal. It has been a week now since with several reboots, and non stop backup has been running fine ever since.
So, thanks for the suggestion Pat! :-)

Unfortunately this does not work for me. The "Acronis Nonstop Backup Service" stops randomly while performing the first Nonstop backup. If I go to services.msc and manually start it again, the Nonstop backup process resumes from scratch and stops again at another random point. This goes on and on and I never manage to complete a single backup. Used to work well in version 2011. Very frustrating.

Hello all,
Thank you for your comments! Pat, thanks a lot for help, I appreciate it. Jochem, thanks for updating the thread, it's good to know that everything's working now.
Gustavo, there can be several reasons for the issue. Usually NSB stops itself in case there are not enough system resources (RAM, CPU). It was designed to avoid unnecessary CPU load.
First of all please check whether you have the latest build installed (we were promised to have Update 1 released soon, so you might want to wait for the update as well). If you do, please check the drive for consistency:
Start -> Run -> cmd -> chkdshk /f /r -> press Y and reboot the machine. Upon booting Windows will check the drive for file system errors and bad blocks, and will fix the issues if any.
Should the problem remain, please gather:
- Generate Acronis System Report as described in Acronis True Image Home 2012: Generating System Report;
- Go to the Time Explorer Storage folder and get the cdp.metadata file (you can find the detailed information about it in the NSB diagnosis tool article)
- Open a Support Request, with both the generated system report and the cdp.metadata file for investigation.
Let us know the case number.
Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
Thank you.

I'm having the same problem in 2011. When I tied following Yana's advice, I had two problems.
First, there is no cdp.metadata file in my backup location. I am doing a nonstop backup of My Documents from C: to my Secure Zone on D:. "Show hidden files and folders" is turned on but there is no such file in the root of D: or the SZ.
Second, when I tried sending the system report to Customer Central I discovered that my support for 2011 has expired. Being that this problem seems to be persistent across versions and builds, I'm not too anxious to purchase an upgrade to 2012 if it's not going to fix the problem.
I've been using NSB with 2011 for about 1.5 years and just started having the problem. First it was just NSB stopping, with the only indication being the red and white X in the tray. Yesterday NSB started hogging my CPU long after I'd booted up and when the only file changes were incoming email and occasional spreadsheet saves. Then NSB started stopping shortly after restarts and giving me the "File level CDP manager service has encountered a problem..." message. When it indicates in the tray that NSB has stopped shortly after startup, turning it back on in MS Services works for a couple of minutes than it stops again and I get the File Level CDP manager Service error message.
I noticed in an older forum post (2010) that someone running 2011 figured the only solution appeared to be shutting down NSB and doing manual backups. I hope that's not my only option but that's what I'm doing now.
The bottom line is that I'd like to have this fixed but as I stated above, I don't care to throw money at it just to find out that the problem is never going to be rectified. So I'd appreciate any suggestions or opinions.
I'm running TrueImage home 2011, Update 3 (Build 6942) under XP SP3.

Hi,
I am having problem with Acronis NSB; after a month it is stopped working; I have notice conflict with Tune UP 2013 - somebody has the same problems?
Regards,

I don't use Tune Up 2013, so that's not my problem and I don't seem to have conflicts with other software, either. Judging by the comments in this thread and others, this is a known issue that transcends versions and which Acronis doesn't seem to be interested in fixing.
I resorted to doing manual backups and if I'm working on something that I'm making a lot of changes to, I save the file to my backup drive a few times a day to make sure I don't lose much if something happens.
I recently built a new Windows 7 computer and I do not plan to buy and install Acronis True Image on that computer. I set Windows 7 up to do a full data backup once a day and I saved an image of my primary drive to my backup drive and burned it to a disc after getting the computer set up with all my software. I have the Windows DVD, so if it becomes necessary, I can do a recovery with the Windows DVD and the image I saved. I may break down an buy one of the competing continuous backup products when I get tired of doing manual backups.
I'm sorry I don't have any encouraging words for you, Robert. Don't hold your breath waiting for a reply. As you can see, yours is the first reply to my post on 1/22/12, i.e, nearly 1.5 years ago.

I had a similar problem with 2014 and it continued when I upgraded to 2015. While Acronis-2015 was still in its "free support" period, I submitted the information to the technical support group. None of the people who responded had a working knowledge of the English language, and all they asked me to do was to turn in the results of a few log files, which I did. When they still couldn't determine the problem, they wanted to take over my computer remotely. Naturally, I refused. (There is no telling what kind of damage they could/would do, or whether or not they would load child pornography onto my computer in retaliation for my frustration with their ineptitude.)
Eventually, I noticed that when I switched DE's, the problem went away. However, because of the HSDC I wanted to use (being a superior setup, naturally), I wanted to use the exiting DE. After a few false starts, I eventually switched the HSDC from the OBH (which contained 13 DP's, an excessive number) to the RHC on the RAPC.
Ever since then, the nonstop backups have continued with no interruptions, failures, or other problems.
It was as simple as that. I should have seen it sooner, but, considering I had used the original DE and the OBH since I first bought Acronis-2014, and it had worked fine for 19 months, I never thought switching from the OBH to the RHC would have made a difference, despite the presence of 13 DP's on the aforementioned OBH.
Let this be a lesson for us all. I know I shall certainly never forget it.

I recently found a great backup program, Bvckup2. That is indeed a 'v' rather than an 'a'. It's light, fast, inexpensive and doesn't save your data in a proprietary format. I use it to back up to a second internal HDD and weekly to an external HDD.
I gave up on Acronis a long time ago, which is unfortunate, as they used to have good products. Fortunately, I never had a need to find out if Acronis recovery worked. Now I just keep a disk image on my second HDD and external HDD.
I never had any problems with Disk Director but I switched to AOMEI Partition Assistant when I update my OS from XP To Win 7.

I have a similar problem and would like to try your solution but don't understand your acronyms. Could you please let me know what DE, HSDC, RHC and RAPC means?
