"Nonstop backup is stopped"

Thread needs solution

Using Windows 8, nonstop backup is working well on one machine but stopped after a week on the other.

After booting, the backup says it is running (in the "Play" position). Before it can complete a backup, it stops with the message in the title of this post popping up in a balloon. When I try to run it manually, the same thing happens after about 90 seconds. Then a second balloon says the operation completed successfully. The log shows no errors, but I just realized the last successful backup was December 29, 2012. Looking at Recovery, no file has been backed up since then.

I would think this has been covered pretty exhaustively, but I can't find a similar post. Can you help?

There seems to have been a sudden spate of NSB just stopping or reportingnot enough space.

Are both your systems W8 ones?

Has this happened (as far as you can tell) after a Windows update or possibly a firewall update?

Thanks for the response, Colin.

Both PCs are running Windows 8, and the older of the two is the one that is working. Their operating environments (software, hardware) are similar but not precisely the same.

There was no installed update to Windows 8 even close to December 29, and I can't find (or think of) anything else that was changed on the problem PC about then. Something must have happened, but it isn't obvious.

From what I can tell, Acronis thinks all is well on that PC, reporting no errors.

I paid for one-time support on this issue, which was unfortunate given that the software failure occurred within the one-month timeframe for free support but I didn't notice it until afterward.

This was the resolution. The "cdp.metadata" file could have been corrupt. I fully deleted the "stopped" backup and started another nonstop backup under a new name.

That worked, at least for now. But I have no idea of the root cause. The first time it happened, it had worked fine for two weeks and then failed. I'm only on Day 2 for this fix, but we'll hope it has better longevity this time.

Hope this helps someone down the line.
