Not Enough Space in ASZ

Thread needs solution

When I choose Disk and Partition Backup then choose Backup Now, I get the error "Not enough space in ASZ" and the backup does not run. If I delete the oldest backup manually, everything works fine. Under Backup Options, Error Handling, the statement "When not enough space in ASZ, delete the oldest backup", is checked properly. How do I tell the backup program to delete the oldest backup automatically, not manually?

My software is ATI Home 2011, update 1 Build 6696 (registered).
OS is XP Pro with SP3 and all updates are up to date.
ASZ is on a disk of its own and it is a BASIC (not a Dynamic) disk. The disk can support three full backups, but has insufficient space for the fourth.

All suggestions will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Alfred,

When Acronis makes a new full backup, for example, it needs enough space to do the new backup without deleting the older one. Once the new one is done, then ATI cleans up.

If you don't have enough space on the ASZ, you can:
a) increase the size of the ASZ (well... that was obvious)
b) instead of relying on the "error handling setting", set the number of versions you want to keep in the backup scheme: instruct ATI to keep only the last 2 backups. This way it can do the third one, and then erase the first one.
c) set up the backup to do only incremental or differential backups after the first full backup, and then to choose autoconsolidation. This will roll up the changes of older backups in the original full backup as new backups are created.

If ATI doesn't delete an older versioni, it may be because it has lost track of it and doesn't know it is still there. Look at the versions ATI is aware of by clicking on "explore all versions". You might have to delete these orphan versions manually.

Hello Pat,

Thank you for your reply and answers. I tried your option b) technique and it worked great. The system puts a strange message on the backups that it erased: "Not backed up yet." Perhaps a better message would be "Not backed up anymore" but I guess it has some meaning to the software creators. At any rate it all works fine. Thanks again.
