Not getting incremental backup

Thread needs solution

I have ATI Home 2011. I am trying to take an incremental backup of my hard drives, but I appear to be getting a full backup. I initially had the backup settings defined as "Differential". Those came out as either larger or slightly smaller than the original full backup. I reset the settings to "Incremental" and it did not make any difference. I have been doing "Incrementals" for a few years without a problem.

Formerly incrementals would have just a number appending to the full backup name (afullbackup, afullbackup1, afullbackup2, etc). The new backups have the name of the full backup followed by a "(n)" (afullbackup, afullbackup(1)).

Now Looking at the logs, apparently what I thought was a full backup was not "full" but defined as a "differential". Would this mess things up?

Thanks,

JohnD

Understanding the dependency of the inc and diff is important.

Both type begin with a full and neither the inc or diff can function without the continued presence of a non-corrupt full.
A diff includes changes from the last FULL.
An inc includes changes only from the lat INC.

You indicate you have made configuration changes to the backup task. Changing the original settings can confuse the program.

My suggestion would be (at the very least) to validate your existing backups to have a feel if they are still usable.

Also, I would create a new task and begin your backups anew so you have new backups to supplement your questinable old ones.

When the program backup data gets corrupted, the program reverts to make a full backup in size without any change of name.
