"This is not the last volume of the backup archive."

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have several problems going on at the moment, so I will try to be careful posting only pertinent facts here.

I restored an image from TrueImage 2009 yesterday to a new hard drive in a notebook computer. The restore was necessary because of a corruption that occured several weeks ago.

The restore worked yesterday without incident. Later yesterday, I updated Norton Internet Security, and then restarted the system as instructed.

After reboot, Windows XP would not start normally. (I could restart in Safe Mode.) I believe this is a problem associated with Norton's update, as I experienced problems on two other computers several weeks ago after installing the updates.

This morning I installed a clean hard drive in the computer and attempted to restore the same image that was restored yesterday.

I am now receiving the following error message:

"Error while opening archive file"
"This is not the last volume of the backup archive."

The image is on the same external hard drive that I used yesterday to restore the image.

What is going on? And, more importantly, what do I need to do to correct the problem?

Thanks

Jeff

Nortons products are famous for not playing nice with other products since Nortons started using the MS COMS mechanism (which is quite a few years ago).

For peace of mind, I suggest booting with the rescue CD and just check that the image is still in tact.

Are you able to mount or explore the image?

To test to see if Nortons is the culprit, disable all Nortons processes in Services and those that appear in MSConfig.

They may have some hidden startups that only SYS INTERNALS Autorun can find.
