Notifications via Exchange Server? SMTP Authentication Fails.
Hey all,
Has anyone got notifications working through an on-site Exchange server? My admin just opened up whatever she needs to in order for our email-capable printers and copiers to send emails outside the company via SMTP. So, we know emailing via the Exchange server can work.
But when I set up True Image 2015 backup to use the Exchange server, encryption "None" and valid network username and password credentials I get "Authentication failed" and an event code that takes me to an Acronis support page that says username and password are wrong. But they aren't (and I've tried several logins).
- If I use a bogus server name I get an error saying server not found, so it looks like the Exchange server is being found.
- If I try to use no SMTP authentication at all, either by unchecking the box or blanking the credentials, I get a "Network error" with an event code that tells me SMTP authentication must be used.
- I have also tried the other available encryption types, but those all end up with "Network error" instead of "Authetication falied". So, it would seem the "none" encryption gets me the closest.
Has anyone got this working? If so, what username and password works to authenticate to the Exchange server? What else needs to be done on the Exchange server to get the SMTP relay working right? As I said, we have other printers and copiers that send email via the Exchange server, so we know it works (and those do not even require authentication for whatever way my admin has things set up -- she just enters white-listed IP addresses and Exchange allows the send.
I am currently needing to use my own personal GMail credentials and the Google SMTP server to get things sent. It's not the end of the world, but it is far from elegant. I suppose I could set up a GMail address for my department and use it generically for any SMTP sending, but it would obviously be nicer to get Exchange working...
Thanks for any help anyone can offer!
Thanks,
JoeK
