Online backup fails with "Read error or metadata content is corrupted"

Thread needs solution

Hi,  I have been backing up around 200GB of files to the Cloud using ATIH 2013 (build 6514) for nearly 2 years.  The backup job runs once every week and it has suddenly stopped working.  The job stops early on when checking for changes to files with the message "Read error or metadata content is corrupted".

I have also noticed that I cannot edit the online backup settings for this job.  If I try, the edit fails when I press "Save" (even if I make no changes) with the message "An error occurred either during the connection or on the server".  I can still see my backed up files by logging in to Acronis Cloud but I can't add to them any new material.  I have considered deleting the backup and starting a new job but that would mean losing all my previous 200GB and anyone who has used Acronis Cloud will know it takes a very long time to back up that much material.

I contacted "support/chat" but they told me that they no longer support ATIH2013 and even though I am paying them a subscription to store my data on the Cloud, they will not help.  My only option is to upgrade to a new product.  I will continue to use ATIH2013 for disc imaging and local file backups but will now probably move to Crashplan which seems a much better (and cheaper) option for online backups.

It appears to me that the ATIH online backup job has somehow been corrupted.  Does anyone have an idea on how I could resolve this?

Thanks.

I thought I should update Forum members on the problem above.

After failing to get any reasonable solution from Acronis, I did go ahead and purchase an annual subscription to Crashplan (unlimited backup for 1 PC) and started to recreate my large "cloud" back up from the PC that was no longer working using Acronis.  A few days after this, Acronis emailed me and offered me a free upgrade to TI 2016 for my 3 PCs (I had the family version of ATIH2013).  This offer came with a free years subscription for unlimited cloud backup.  Previously Acronis had insisted it would be necessary for me to purchase the new product - something I was reluctant to do since in all other respects it was functioning OK and bearing in mind I was already paying for the existing Cloud backup.

After thinking it through, I decided to take up this offer (which did seem reasonable even if it had taken a rather long, around a month, to appear).  I have now uninstalled ATIH2013 from 2 of my 3 PCs and successfully installed TI2016.  It took a bit of time, but I have now re-created the various local and online backups I had running previously, including the "cloud" backup that has led to my initial problem.  I am glad to say that TI2016 installed without any major problems - something of a relief given previous experience with upgrading this product.

So for the next year I will be operating 2 online backups - one with Acronis (which gives me an unlimited cloud backup facility for all 3 PCs) and one with Crashplan which provides unlimited backup for one PC.  This is a bit over the top but at least at the end of the year I will be in a good place to decide which to renew.
