Operation Error

Thread needs solution

I just installed Acronis True Image 11 Home Edition. When setting up the Acronis Secure Zone it did a restart and I got this error message: Operation error: Run list corrupted. Then after a minute or so the program completed its function. Do I need to pay attention to this error message?

A related question: is it not better to do full backups of the system and files to an external drive, so that if your main hard-drive is shot you can recover from the external drive? If so, why use the Secure Zone to do a back-up?

As a newbie, I would appreciate soem direction here, thank you.

Hello Thomas,

I understand the questions and will do my best to answer all of them in details.

Run list corrupted message means that there can be bad blocks and file system errors on that partition. The full error message is probably the following “run list corrupted please note that you cannot change the file system and size of this partition”.

If you can successfully create backup archives and store them in Acronis Secure Zone then there is nothing to worry about. I would just recommend you to check the disks for errors.

- Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)

- Enter the command: "chkdsk DISK: /r" (where DISK is the partition letter you need to check) for every partition that is visible in My Computer. Please note, that checking the C: drive may require you to reboot the machine.

Regarding the second question, you see Acronis Secure Zone acts like a special hidden partition to store backup archives. Additionally in outdated versions it is used to activate Acronis Startup Recovery Manager. ASRM or Acronis Startup Recovery Manager serves to boot computer using F11 key and restore previously created image of the system. You can read more information in user gudie

I agree that that in some cases it’s really safely to store backup archives in detachable media instead of internal drive. Eg. you can save image of the system on the external drive and in case disaster happens boot computer with Acronis bootable disc and restore the image located on the external drive.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.
