Having worked my way through TI version 10, TI version 11 and various builds of TI version 12 (2009), I have remained using TI 2009 build 9796 for some time.
My use is very simple, make and restore full partition images of my XP SP3 OS partition only - no incremental stuff, no protected zones etc.
The images are saved in 4GB parts (so they can be copied onto DVD's if required - very rarely done) directly to a second physical SATA hard drive (NTFS) in the computer and subsequently also copied to an external NTFS USB hard drive. I have no trouble either making the images or restoring from them from either the local or the USB external drive, and it has saved the bacon many times.
OK, there was another update released for TI 2009, build 9809 which I have but have not installed.
Is there any advantage of upgrading to 9808. I see from testing the recovery disk that Acronis still hadn't fixed the totally illogical progress bars that have dogged them almost forever. Unfortunately my experience since version 10 (which was great) is that newer releases weren't always as stable as the one they replaced, so if upgrading to 9808 has problems, I'll leave well enough alone.
The other question is whether there is any point in purchasing TI2010, or should I wait until I get new hardware that TI 2009 can't handle. Is it more stable in terms of the core functions?
Any constructive comment would be appreciated.

Definitely wait until you get new hardware that 2009 cannot handle.

Thanks for your advice. Will take it and sit pat until I move on to different hardware.
