Partition not shown in TI2015 (and DD12)

Thread needs solution

Media: USB-Stick with TI2015 build 6613, USB-Stick with DD12 build 3223
System: Acer NB with Win8.1x64 UEFI GPT-Disk

The partition "Reserviert"/128 MB of the harddisk is not shown/recognized, neither in TI2015 nor in DD12; it is listed in diskpart (see screenshots).

Due to this the system was no more bootable after recovery with TI2015; seems the 128 MB partition was overwritten on recovery with the image of the recovered "Acer" partition. Repair with Windows repair media failed; I had to recover from factory recovery and completely rebuild the system.

Is this a (known) bug in TI2015 and DD12?

Regards, Pit

Yes this is a known issue.
It was first reported in the True Image 2013 MVP forum by GroverH, and it should have been resolved in that version. Acronis' support of GPT disks is fundamentally flawed. GroverH, Mustang, and I have performed extensive tests and submitted plenty of feedback to Acronis support showing how and when this issue occurs. I submitted a support ticket on the issue for the 2016 version and received the following response.

Joe, this is a standard behaviour of Acronis product and our development team has already worked on it. This is by design and could not be changed. There is no fix for this issue as of now.

This issue has existed for too many versions. This is unacceptable for a company that develops disk imaging software and pushes out a "new" version every year(11 months between 2015 and 2016). All computers manufactured in the last couple of years have UEFI motherboards that boot from GPT disks, and every other disk utility I have tested handles this partition correctly.

Also open a support ticket. Acronis provides free support with recovery issues after the 30 day standard support period ends.

Maybe if enough users report complications related to this issue, they will decide to take it seriously.

Hi Joey,

thank you very much for your detailed comment.

The behaviour of Acronis is really unacceptable.

I'll take your advice and inform Acronis about the problems I had, but I think, they will not patch the 2015 version of TI, if any. After years with Acronis, it seems to be time for a change now.

Thanks again,
Pit
