Partition restore Windows 8
Hi
Have read Mr Grover's guide how to restore partition by partition to a larger or smaller disk using TIH2012 and Windows 7.
I assume same is basically true for W8.
However, I have a couple of queries
1) As W8 uses GPT disks, does TH2013 automatically handle that when formatting etc.
2) The guide refers to the MBR and active disks. Does this apply to W8?
3) I understand there is a hotfix for TIH2013 for GPT based systems. Is that encompassed in current downloads, or will I need to apply it?
Please accept my apologies if the above are answered elsewhere, but I checked quite a few threads and could not see specific answers.

Is there anything else I need to consider.

If you restore the image of a GPT disk to a GPT disk you are fine. You can definitely try the simplest way: start the restore from Windows and restore the entire disk, as Thomas recommends.
If that doesn't work, you will have to use the recovery CD.
In previous versions, ATI could create issues when restoring to a smaller disk and scaling all partitions blindly. Hence the partition by partition best practice. But as long as your system boots after restore.

Thanks - I will try a whole disk image (I have a spare HDD). I have tried similar with several packages (paragon, easus, norton ghost15) and they have all failed. Even using windows 7 image dows not work properly with my Vaio (Sony partions seem to cuase it to get confused).
The only way I have managed so far to recover a disk so far is to run the Sony Recovery first which sets up all the partitions correctly, and then use TIH2013 (trial) to rcover C drive only. However the Sony Recovery takes about 1.5 hours or more.
Cheers

Hi all,
At last a backup package that does a full disk image in W8 and works first time.
Only minor issue is that the recovery disk would only boot in legacy mode rather than eufi mode even though I loaded the hotfix before I created the boot DVD. There are a number of start-up parameters - should I be setting any of these?
I use a new Sony Vaio which many have found to be temperamental with Windows 8.
