Partition Selection for Image

Thread needs solution

I have created an Image File on a network drive and a boot recovery disk.
My machine has three partitions:

System
C:
Factory_image

I put all three partitions in the image file, although the software had preselected only the C: partition.
Is there an advantage to making an image file that contains a subset of the three?

Absolutely yes!
Having such a backup (which I call a "disk option" backup offers the most options to the user when moving to another disk or restoring the existing disk. It is also the only type backup which includes the "disk signature" which is utilized by some software.

Having such a backup does not necessarily mean that every backup has to be that type (although that is what I practice which is disk option backup with 6 incrementals) but you have the option of restoring based on need--one or multiple partitions can be restored. If you were to have a problem, restoring C might also require you to restore the boot partition--so having it on the same backup is simplicity. There is nothing to prevent you from also having additional backups which are of single partitions. I store backups across several disks--both internal and external.

I would strongly encourage you to test your recovery plans to make sure the Rescue CD can see the backup file plus all your drives. TrueImage makes trial simulations easy to get ready for a real time test.
