Partitions Queston
Hello Acronis Forums!
I have a quick question for you. I have taken an image of a harddrive that was split into two partitions, one of which was just data, the other a tablet OS. Now, the client wants to upgrade the harddrive and put the contents of both partitions onto one. So i took a full partition backup of the OS, and just the data from the other partition. Now from what i have seen from acronis thus far, if i restore the partition, it will remain the same size. What i want to do is extend the parition to as big as it can get, is there any way to acomplish this using acronis? I have both new and old versions of acronis. Also the OS is Xp tablet, so unlike vista or 7 i can't extend it. If you can't accomplish this in acronis, could someone point me in the right direction oof what third party app can accomplish this?

Sounds Good, i haven't looked at it yet because the harddrive hasn't come in yet but should today, i just wanted to make sure.

Here's an alternative. Since one partition is ONLY data, copy the data to an external drive. Get the free Partition Wizard bootable CD, boot with it and extend the OS partition into the full extent of the drive - this will nuke the data partition.
After rebooting the system, make a folder for the data and copy the backed up data into it.
The PW CD is a good addition to your "bag o'tricks".

Alright i got the drive and restored the partition, I was able to just slide the slider over and fill it the rest of the way, only now the harddrive does not boot. Its recognized, but no boot. I feel its probably because i felt i didn't need the MBR and it would just create a new one. I'm still not sure if this is the problem or not, but i'm about to restore it. Also i didn't assign it a drive, should i have? I feel like the other "my computer" backups i've done worked without the drive letter. Any suggestions?

Somewhere in the restore process look for a setting to mark the partition Active. It may not default to this.
