Prevent File-Splitting in FTP-Backup?

Thread needs solution

Hi!

Is there any way to prevent TrueImage Home 2010 from splitting files when backing up to an FTP server? The connection is just faster than CIFS/SMB (about a factor of 2!), but it's ugly that a backup is split into a whole bunch of files... Most FTP servers are capable of handling large files, right? At least mine is, I tested it. And it's in my LAN, so it's very unlikely that the connection breaks.

Any Ideas?

Regards
Rainer

I don't use FTP but if the archive is breaking into 4GB pieces it is likely because the server's storage is formatted as FAT32.

Hi!

Well, it's breaking into 2GB, and the file system is ext3... Actually, TrueImage cannot know about the file system...

Rainer

Exact same problem here on TIH 2012. I am ftp'ing into a Synology NAS Box. Setting file splitting option to either 0 or 10TB doesn't seem to matter.

Worse yet, after I do a full backup and get 20 2GB files, when I run the first incremental backup it overwrites the last of the 20 pieces.

Yuch!

Because of FTP protocol, and limitations of various ftp servers and configuration, the files are split in 2GB chunks to ensure compatibility.

I can understand that this should be the default, but it seems like a bug that I can't overwrite it.

Agreed. Acronis is not solely used by newbies. There are a lot of power users out there who use it also. We know what our limitations are. I'm using a Thecus NAS unit with ext4 filesystem. If I can manually FTP a 6GB file from Windows, I don't see why Acronis won't let me attempt this also. To manually derail my attempts is not a feature, it is a hindrance. Not sure why they wouldn't include an info message or disable archive splitting altogether when using the FTP connection option if they are going to override my settings anyway. Additionally, as stated by another user, FTP is make specifically for efficient file transport and is usually faster than SAMBA.

Nope, I just don't get it.

All valid points Dwight.
We can only observe that ATIH being a consumer product, tweaks about FTP parameters didn't make it to the UI.

Pat, I hear that. Just wish that Acronis would have provided a little info to the end user if that's the path they decided to take, so I wouldn't have wasted time having to search for an answer as to why my backups were splitting into 2.1GB chunks. :)
