Problem with cloning and/or restoring. After image complete, it hangs BEFORE the post screen
ATIH2010 Version 6053
W7 Ult 64bit
Seagate 1TB w W7 Ult 64
Hitachi 2tb w Vista Ult 64
Dual boot configuration. Vista was there first so the boot manager resides on the Hitachi drive.
I want to move W7 from the Seagate over to a new Patriot Torqx SSD.
The problem is, is that no matter how I do it, (clone, or a restore from an image) it will hang on me when I try to reboot.
After the image has been restored, or the cloning completes, I shut off the machine, and unplug the Seagate. This leaves just the new SSD and the Hitachi plugged in. I turn the machine back on and I get a solid cursor, then the keyboard turns on, and then the mouse. After this point I normally get the motherboard post screen where I can hit F2 to enter the bios, etc...However, once an image or clone is done, I never get to the post screen. It hangs at the solid cursor after the keyboard and mouse are turned on. It's not the SSD as it goes past that screen fine when there's nothing on it. It's only AFTER I have restored from an image or a clone that it hangs. Also, I can plug the Seagate back in, boot back into W7 and then plug the SSD in and see all of the files from the restore/clone just fine. I have tried numerous ways of doing this from suggestions in the forums. Doing a restore/clone after booting from a USB stick, booting off of the bootable rescue media cd, etc...
HELP please!!!

I saw a number of posts where help was forthcoming and a number where it WASN'T. I posted over a WEEK ago for help. It amazes me that no one has responded to my post. Not even a "Gee we're sorry for the delay, we'll get back to you as soon as possible." Ignoring your customers is NOT a good business model! If I don't get some help pretty quickly here I'm going to vote with my wallet and dispute the charges on my card. Maybe when you start losing business you'll start paying more attention. Remember, us customers are the reason that you're in business.

Hello Kit,
Please accept our profound apologies for the delay with the response. We'll do our best to prevent such situation from happening in future.
Let me help you with the issue.
It seems that your Master Boot Record was corrupted somehow during the restore process, so I may suggest you to restore it manually.
Boot from Windows Vista installation disc, select language and keyboard or input method, click Next and choose to Repair your computer. Then you will need to select the operating system that you want to repair. In the System Recovery Options dialog box click Command Prompt and type the following:
Bootrec.exe /FixMbr
Bootrec.exe /FixBoot
If you want to completely rebuild Windows Vista Boot Configuration Data, then you should issue the following command:
Bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd
This command scans all disks for installations that are compatible with Windows Vista. Additionally, this option also allows select the installations that you want to add to the Boot Configuration Data store.
Additionally, I may recommend you to have a look at this post, it's really useful if you are working with SSD drives.
Please reply to this thread if the issue still persists or if you have any further questions, I'll be glad to assist you.
Thank you.
