Problem with re-sizing partition

Thread needs solution

I am using the latest trial version of True Image Home 2010 to try to upgrade a 250 GB drive to a 500 GB drive, but had issues with the process.
The source drive has 3 partitions, an EISA, and 2 standard NTFS partitions
Using Tools & Utilities; Clone Disk; Manual, the desired sizes are:
1) 5 GB EISA -> 5GB
2) 138 GB -> 200 GB
3) 95 GB -> 260 GB
The process appeared to start, but then just went to the clone menu. This was tried 3x times.

I repeated the process by using the automatic mode, and this proceeded to produce a proportional re-sizing, and actually created the partitions on the new drive.
When trying to boot to the system, the "Missing OS" diagnostic message was displayed.
After re-trying a number of times with the same result, running the fixmbr fixed this problem.
Is there an issue with my hardware or something that would require me to perform a fix to the MBR?

Just a new user comment regarding the re-sizing process, it would be good if the re-sizing editor was more intuitive to get to instead of having to read the manual to determine you have to click on the partition, then right click to get to the resize menu.

The cloning of a system drive is best done when booted from a TrueImage Recovery CD. Unfortunately, the trial version does not support the cloning option when booted from the CD.

You can try creating a full disk backup of your source drive in Windows mode.
Then remove the source and install the target.
Boot from the trial Rescue CD
and perform a Partition Restore with Resize.

You are correct in keeping the eisa partition the same size.
You can manually resize the 2nd and 3rd partitions to whatever sizes you want.

Shutdown and disconnect any extra drives so only the new disk is attached during first boot following the restore.

You can check items 7B inside my signature index but the guide is for a prior version but the same basic principles apply.

Thanks, GroverH. Your 7B article has a lot of good info in it. It seems like the upgrade and re-partitioning process should be able to be automated, since most items are known or can be figured out, especially when it is such a go-nogo situation. If Acronis ever gets it to that level, I would buy in a second. Another comment regarding the mix of products that many writers of software utilities do, is the annoying practice of breaking up similar tasks in to several different products, so just finding which one that fits the situation makes it an approach-avoidance issue. An example is MigrateEasy....I tried to install this after the True Image 2010, and it said that a newer version is already installed...I guess referring to the True Image.
Anyway, it looks like your product has good potential.
