Problems with restoring system

Thread needs solution

Hi

I have been trying to recover my system - the whole disc, to a new disc I have installed. I have installed Windows XP on it and updated to the latest standard. I have installed Acronis True Image 10 which is the same level I created the backup files with. When I try to restore my system, it tells me a re-boot is required to complete the first stage....so.....it reboots and then the Acronis loader says it is loading....then.....a window flashes on the screen and then dissapears leaving the system to reboot back to windows again....all Acronis stuff has finished so back to square 1 and try again. Same result each time. Any suggestions please?

Hello Brian,

Welcome to our forum and thank you for your post. I will definitely resolve this for you.

From your description of the issue, it is possible you have either an external USB hard drive or a card reader, either attached or embedded into your machine. This problem occurs only when restoring from one internal hard drive to another internal hard drive.

You can disconnect any external USB storage devices as well as disable any inbuilt card readers from the device manager. Please use this Knowledge Base article for detailed instructions.

If you have any other issues or have additional questions, please let me know.

Thank you.

Often times, you have better result by performing the restore when booted from the TI Rescue CD. Doing so takes Windows out of the picture.

On first bootup following the restore, only the new drive should be attached. You do not want Windows to see two identical drives because Windows can get confused as to which is the intended boot drive.
