Problems reverting to 2014 after trying 2015

Thread needs solution

build 6688

I tried and hated the 2015 version so I uninstalled it and then re-installed 2014. The install failed - it ran as far as he final screen that said "Install successfully completed" but hung on that screen. I had to kill it.

I repeated the 2014 install again with reboot in between - same result.

I then went to control panel and tried uninstalling 2014, and got message "it may have already been uninstalled".

I next went to the program folder and renamed the trueimage folder to "... old", and re-ran the install.

This time it installed ok, and ran showing me my list of backups. I clicked "start now" on a a backup and got error""Failed to open (initialise) the computer", "Failed to initialise the snapshot manager....".

2014 was working fine on this win8.1 before I tried 2015.

How can I restore a working system?

My suggestion would be to boot from the user created TrueImage Recovery CD and use one of your 2014 Disk Image Backups which you made before you removed 2014, and from the TI CD, perform a Disk Image Restore of your 2014 backup.

Or, another option would be run the 2015 TrueImage Cleanup utility ( my signature link 4 below).
Do be sure and followi the written instructions included within the utility.

Thank you GroverH, I followed the cleanup route, first running the 2015, 2014 and disk director 12 installers in 'remove' mode (or windows remove where acronis installer did not offer to remove).

Things look good now with my backups now 'backing up', although I had to manually browse for my existing backups ('search' doesn't seem to do anything???), and then re-create the settings for each (then cleanup having zapped the settings). It's somewhat annoying that you have to go through the exact same browse/ recreate procedure for every backup when it would be more convenient to select all the desired backups first and apply the same settings to them all at once.

BTW, the steps in the cleanup procedure are not 100% accurate, but good enough if you know what you are doing. Perhaps it was written for an earlier version. In particular, the bit where it asks if you want to delete your disks (y/n) is glossed over (I opted for NO!!).

Funny,

I swear by a product called Revo Uninstaller, which I also used to remove 2015 to go back to 2014. Revo has a 100% free version, not trialware.

When I used Revo to remove 2015, I had no issues, and installed 2014 right after without any issues.

You might want to look into Revo:
