Problems uinstalling 2009 version

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I had ACRONIS True image home 2009 running on my WINDOWS 7 machine.

I deleted it, because I want to install Acronis True Image 2016.

I used the deinistallation tool, because the system could not uninstall 2009 by itself. I check the keys in the registry. All gone. Acronis does not appear under programs and functions anymore. Looks to me, it should be completely deinstalled. PC was restarted twice.

Acronis True Image 2016 STILL complains that some older version has to be deleted.

I have no more Idea what to do.

HDW57, welcome to these user forums.

One of the reasons why ATIH 2016 may complain that there is still an older version present is if you have enabled / activated either the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager (ASRM) that gives a F11 option on boot, or have created the Acronis Secure Zone (ASZ) to store backup in.

If either of these are present, then you will need to remove them.

Hopefully you will still have an ATIH 2009 Rescue Media CD that you can boot from and use to deactive the ASRM / ASZ if present.  Any backups saved to the ASZ will be lost when it is removed, so if needed, you could make an offline backup to another drive using the Rescue Media to have a backup available for any emergencies.

If you don't have the 2009 Rescue Media, then sign in to your Acronis account online and provided you registered the 2009 software to the account, then you can download an ISO image of the Rescue CD that you can burn on to CD media.

Hi Steve,

Thx for the reply. I doubt, that I have any of the options you mentioned activated, but I'll definitely check.

HDW57, check my post in the link below.  There are others who have reported some leftover files/folders in programdata that are not removed even by the cleanup tool.  This can be due to the ownership of those files getting out of whack.  Check for leftover folders (turn on show hidden files/folders in Windows explorer first) in the folders identified in that thread.  If they are there, then you need to take ownership of the main folder(s).  After ownserhip is completed, then give "all users" and "administrators" FULL ACCESS.  Let the permission replicate and then you can manually delete those folders.  Run cleanup tool one more time for good measure and reboot and then see if you can install.  When installing, always right-click and choose the option to "run as administrator" - this should be standard practice for any application you attempt to run or any removal or installation that might need admin access (as does the clean tool, and Acronis installers).
