Question on Acronis and system reserve partition

Thread needs solution

I know you are supposed to backup the system reserve partition along with the main C: (installation) partition.

Some questions:

1) What exactly is the reserve partition and is it necessary to keep it ?

2) When you restore the main C: drive to a previous image...Is it necessary to restore the system partition also ?

3) My main PC (Win 7 Pro 64bit) does not have a system partition...I'm assuming it's because I built this system from scratch.

4) If there is nothing on my other Win 7 Pro 32 bit system partition (Pretty much rebuilt when we added win 7 Pro 32 bit via clean install a year or so ago) that's used from the manufacturer (HP Pavilion older media center)...is it necessary too maintain the reserve partition ?

Thanks....TRinAZ

1) The system reserved partition is a new partition introduced with Windows7. It is not always created. If you install Win7 on prepartioned disk, it will not be created. It will be added generally to the same disk as the C:\system partition when installed on a blank disk. It might be added to another disk. It contains the boot files for the system. The partition is necessary when you use bitlocker drive encryption. It is not necessary otherwise.

2) Generally, you don't have to restore it. I typically restore it every time because it doesn't hurt. If you have it and you restore on a blank disk, you'd better restore it. If you don't, you can use the Windows7 installation DVD to repair your install: it will add back the boot files to the C:\system partition.

3) Correct.

4) I am not sure I understand the question.
