Question re HDD -> SSD using ATI 2009

Thread needs solution

POsted this last night and it has disappeared so apologies if it shows up twice:

Have a 160g WD Raptor drive. Contains programs and data but no OS. One single partition. I would like to transfer all that data to a SSD. I've read multiple posts about ATI having issues with offsets in SSD but don't see anything that clearly explains yes or no.

So - If I make an image of the WD and transfer it to the SSD - will it suffer from the offset issue?

Would a straight copy from HD to SSD be a better approach to eliminate the offset issue?

Or, is there a better way?

Thanx,

Vic

Hello Victor,

I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to solve the issue.

The simple copy/paste would be a best solution in order to avoid issues with the offset. You see if you restore a single partition or partitions, then TI writes a new entry in the partition table for each restored partition, and it does this according to the older, established partitioning rules. In other words, the partitions will be aligned on cylinder boundaries and will have an offset of 63 sectors. This is not the best alignment for an SSD.

However, if your image is of the entire disk, and you restore the entire disk at once by putting a checkmark next to the disk number, then TI will use the partition table from the saved image. So if you have an SSD set up with the desired alignment and then you create a full-disk image, that full-disk image can then be restored and the existing alignments will be preserved.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

I got confused on this one.
I installed Vista 32 and ATI2009 on a SSD in RAID0 format
did a full backup of C drive (complete drive) to F partition on another disk
used recovery CD and selected the backup and was asked which SSD to restore to, so I selected the 1st one in the list
did not work - does ATI2009 work with SSD in RAID0 format
if not, what to do ?

Just do the straight copy. Make sure that you have properly partioned the SSD using Win7 or Win7 Install CD (Both will automatically apply the proper offset).

I saw Dimitri's post. I am not sure that his statement applies to 2009.
2010 YES
2009 ?????

Let me be a little more clear
I want to know if ATI2009 can be used to backup and restore SSD RAID0 volume
I tried and when I rebooted to Vista 32 - I got a 'disk read err r occurred'
could this be the alignment issue discussed here frequently

Mudcrab has a document using ATI2010 that says it can be done, do I need upgrade to ATI2011 ??
can an administrator for Acronis answer this or someone who has done this with ATI2009 and SSD RAID0

seems like Areic Bailey has answered this for me http://forum.acronis.com/forum/4140
ATI2009 NO
ATI2010 & ATI2011 YES
