Question Re: SID code
Currently I use Paragon Backup and Recover but as prior member using Acronis I am thinking about switching back. In looking at reviews I note the following comment re the Acronis:
"Cons: It lacks a self-extracting image feature and doesn't change the disk image's SID code."
Can anyone explain to me exactly what this means. I am a one user on my one computer. The only time I would ever need to go to another computer to restore an image file is if this one went bad and I purchased a new one.
Also, any feedback on Acronis vs Paragon if you know is appreciated. I need to upgrade today to get the special pricing.

When software vendors or reviewers comment on software, they sometimes use a vernacular that is specific to a product.
Acronis has the ability to mount image and to explore image in windows explorer, like a zip file, but this requires ATI to be installed on the computer. Is this self-extracting? Not quite, but it is close.
ATI allows you to restore the disk signature when you restore. This is precious because some software activation wouldn't work any longer otherwise.
You need the ATI Plus Pack on top of ATI to restore an image to another computer, but you DON'T need it if you restore to a new disk.
Aside from that, I am not familiar with Paragon.
Make sure you test ATI before buying. In particular, make sure you produce a recovery CD and verify it works well on your specific machine.
