question re validation process

Thread needs solution

I have just one month of experience with my ATIH 2012 build 6131, using Windows 7 64bit. It is set for daily updates on a full system backup. after one month of updates, I reformatted my external HD dedicated to that, deleted the backup, and started over with a new system backup, again set for daily updates. The reason I do this is to keep the size of the partition with subsequent versions under 60 GB. A few hours after the system backup, ATIH seems to have gone through a validation process automatically for the system backup. I do not recall having seen this the first time I did a system backup. Is that an automatic process, or could I have done something that might have precipitated that? After the validation completed, seemingly on its own, I saw for the first time "the backup is valid." This notice continues to appear after each update now. Is there a repeating validation for each version, or what can someone tell me who is more experienced with this software? Any help with this would be appreciated. Thank you.

Robert,

I suspect that you see the default validation task, that validates only when the computer is idle or something like this.

On you backup task, click the gear icon and choose edit backup settings. Choose edit backup options in the bottom left corner, go to the advanced tab. You will see a validation section there. Unfold that. Check whether you want a validation after the backup or not. You will probably see that there is a default monthly validation scheduled. Click on the schedule information. In the scheduler window that pops up, unfold the advanced options and uncheck all the boxes. Alternatively, you can just not schedule any validation.

It is highly recommended to validate a backup chain at least once.

Thank you Pat L for your response. You must be using a year or build other than mine, because I do not have the same links you refer to. Instead, I can get to essentially the same thing by left clicking on the "Disk and Partition Backup" on the left side of the Backup and Recovery tab, click on "Disk Backup Options" on the lower left of the pop up window, expand Validation on the advanced tab, and there find several options on when to do a validation. I have checked "validate backup when it is created". That should insure that I will always have a valid backup available. I will check to see if that occurs. Thanks again for your response. It inspired me to explore enough with the software I have to find what looks like a good solution. I'll have to see how much additional time that takes as the size of the partition grows with each added daily version.

On 01/21 at 19:08, I outlined having changed the validation schedule setting. I then watched an incremental update take place on 1/22, and did not detect any validation activity. I rechecked the validation setting, and discovered it had reverted to "once a month." I have tried to reset that validation schedule, but to no avail. Upon returning to recheck it after the program has be closed and later reopened, it comes back to that "default" setting. At least I can do a "validate all backups" on the double gear icon on the Backup and Recovery tab if needed. I suppose as long as I have "The Backup is Valid" notice showing, I'm Okay. Tell me if I'm wrong on this. Very strange.

My suggestion would be to stop your existing tasks and create new tasks and make sure the validation is changed so that validation will occur at time of backup.

You will need to uncheck the default "once a month" setting and to
check the "validate when created" option.
