question regarding "dissimilar hardware" when restoring an image

Thread needs solution

Hey all,

I noticed there's an option restore an image to a system with dissimilar hardware.
My question is, does this apply in situations when the amount of ram has changed since the initial disk image was created (but everything else about the system is exactly thew same)? I'm guessing "disssimilar hardware" only applies when you have a completely different motherboard, graphics card etc – ie. components that require specific drivers?

You are right, dissimilar hardware applies to changes to low-level drivers (required to successfully boot up): change of motherboard, chipset, disk controller, disk controller configuration (RAID/non-RAID) qualify as dissimilar hardware. Change in graphics card, networking gear, external disks, memory, new disk with the same BIOS settings do not qualify.
