RAID recovery fails

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I am looking urgently for a solution to backup my data from my laptop, so a friend of mine suggested
Acronis, however, he said I should try out his bootable recovery disk first, before I purchase, to ensure it is able to detect my hardware.
So he gave me his recovery CD from his True Image 2010 Home version.

When I booted into the Acronis environment, it did not detect my RAID-0 Array (2x250GB in raid 0 on a
Intel Matrix Storage Controller ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E controller).
Instead it detected the 2 250GB disks separately, which is no use to me.

Now im totally stuck. While I like acronis and its happy to backup all my partitions when running under windows (as its using windows to deal with my raid array) - Im not able to recover any backups because
I need to boot into the acronis environment from CD, which appears to be a mini-linux, which does
not recognize my raid array.

So my question is, what do I need to do to have acronis supporting the Intel Matrix Storage Controller ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E controller ?
I need to purchase the product as soon as possible, if I know it can do the job.

Any suggestions?
If Acronis is not up to the task, is there any other product which I can purchase which can do that?

Hope to hear from you soon :)

You can try other brands that offer free trials -- there are many some might have the linux drivers that work on your hardware -- linux is the os that most imaging programs use on the bootCD.

At least one of them uses Windows for the BootCD OS so it definitely has drivers that will work with your software--in fact you can install drivers on the fly -- you have to email them using the Full Evaluation Request Form – Desktop Edition to get the CD burnable iso for the boot CD for the free trial but that's not hard to do

http://www.storagecraft.com/trial_downloads.php

The prog is called Shadowprotect and doesn't have all the scheduling and other options that ATI has; it's a more basic, more expensive (due to the need for the windows license), solid program. SP is made by storagecraft.

I'm not saying SP is better than ATI in all respects; only that it avoids this one particular kind of prob caused by using linux onthe boot CD.

Anyhow the main advantage of this one brand is that it doesn't use linux for the bootCD as most imaging software does for restoration.

Of course you could try getting a custom iso from Acronis, but it takes time to get Tech to respond, collec the right data, etc. Or you coudl try building a vistaPE disk with ATI on it -- again, more work for you.

I had the same problem with TI 2010. I'm running an Intel RAID 1 Setup. With TI 2009 it saw the two drives as one and allowed me to backup and restore with no problems. With TI 2010 it sees them as two drives. I advise you to be careful with the TI 2010 Recovery Disk. On my PC everytime I loaded it, it corrupted my MBR and requireed a complete restore. Regarding ShadowProtect, I'm currently testing it and it works with all asspects of my Intel ICH8R/ICH9R SATA RAID Controller.

PS: If you can get a copy of TI 2009 it should work fine with your Raid Controller.
