re: task: to be done "on event"- not an option?

Thread needs solution

I just installed the latest build of True Image 11 Home.

In the manual- it says that when scheduling a task- the timing can be based
"upon event" and it lists as one of the events a system shutdown- but when I
try to find that option- it's not there- instead I see 3 options: at sys.
startup, at user login, when free disk space changes.

So, why is the "at sys. shutdown" option missing? That's the one I want.

Hello JoeZ!

Thank you for opening the thread about this question. I entirely underdstand your concern and will be glad to shed the light to the situation.

This issue occurs due to the OS you're running:

There is no option to set a scheduled task to be run at shutdown or user logoff if you are using an Acronis product in Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, or Windows 7. The Winlogon service of Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, or Windows 7 is much different from the one of previous Windows operating systems. The scheduled tasks associated with Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, or Windows 7 have been disabled in GUI.

We have a workaround for this issue: you can use the Pre/Post commands option of Acronis True Image to work around the problem.

You can find the details of the issue and the Pre/Post commands scripts in this Knowledge Base article.

Please also note that Acronis True Image Home 11 is an outdated product, it's not supported, updated or developed anymore, so officially it doesn't support Windows 7. Should you need a backup solution for Win7, you can upgrade to Acronis True Image Home 2010. (Just click onto the Upgrade button and the product will be added to your basket). You can test the solution before making a decision, and all the infortmation regarding its functionality is available in the User's Guide.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

OK, so I'm now finally, 5 years later, going to buy the latest product for home/office. Will I have to uninstall my True Image 11 Home first? I've seen some mention that it's not necessary but I'm not sure if this rule holds true for a more ancient product.

Also, somewhere in this forum, a few years ago, I read some people complaining that the newer versions do something they don't like- it writes to/alters the boot sector. Is this something to be concerned about?

and, presumably the latest version will do what my ancient version won't do on my Vista computer- it will run a scheduled task upon shutdown/hibernation/sleep??
