real frustrated with ATI Home 2010 build 6053
Dear Acronis guys,
I am quite upset right now with your support of ATI Home 2010... I use ATI Home since years for my PC and also @ work (different versions)...
I am faced with several problems (USB keyboard & mouse, Online Backup doesnt work, ...) and I'm still waiting for a new build which is not in alpha status... but nothing going on here since months..
Please focus on your competency and deliver products to the end user which are useable - at the moment it's just crap.. Please do not start new features unless the promised features are working proberly...
Well, we're all humans - so I accept that an issue can appear - but I do not accept this amount of issues...
Just to be sure - I'll not spend any money again to be an alpha tester. Make sure your products are working correct - this is a backup software and it has to be reliable.... and I can't trust the results of the backups furthermore..
Don't ask in detail which problems I have so far, I have no time to make Q&A for you... that's the job of your Q&A Department....
Please, give us a roadmap and a schedule when we can expect a correct working software build - otherwise I have to change to other products, because I need reliable backups and images...
I can't understand that IT magazines did not face the problems (here in Germany I didn't find any negativ stuff in CT, PC-Welt, Chip, ....) when they testing your software - maybe we have to publish this...
Sorry for kicking you..
(Are you using your products in house ?)

Many reviewers, for ease and convenience, take press releases and write their reviews from that, or from that and after a couple of minutes browsing a program and maybe doing a couple of tasks. This requires little time and only a not too uncommon lack of scruples. These are review sources to avoid like the plague. One way to determine if a review is one of these is if the review has few if any screen shots of the paces they put the program through and if the the review comments are strikingly similar if not downright quoted from the press releases. (Always good to check the manufacturer's press releases before hunting down reviews.)
Good reviewers are fewer and farther between and comprehensively put a program through it's paces and, for software that is typically hardware sensitive, like backup-imaging software and security software, will test it on a variety of machines. That testing is more likely to reveal probs that many though not most users will experience. This is costly and labor intensive and rarely done. Even worse for information seekers, most reviews are written without the benefit of substantial feedback from users. This is to be expected with early reviews, but one would like to see reviews amended as time goes by and one rarely does. Some (even very well known) pc mags and other online review sources disavow any responsibility for the content of reviews they continue to post.

Is there anywhere that "reviews" reviewers, as said I now look for forums, as I am doing for a new camera and longer term replacing an oil heating boiler. The former a good site dealing with digital cameras (with camera user forum’s) the latter a number of plumbers forums (they install/repair them so they can be honest as they are unlikely to get work/sales from the forum)and with PC products I am now wary of firms that don’t provide user forums (that they clearly respond to) and have not made a number of purchases recommended by PC reviews based on just this but gone for others that seek customers dialogs in resolving issues and appear to have speedily issued revised programs/patches when needed (in this I really don’t regard this forum as resolving issues but papering over the cracks and where that can’t be done all to often ignoring the issue as a firm).

After a fashion, yes, sort of. Sites like http://www.consumersearch.com
will present a number of reviews on a topic from diff sources with a very short summary of the review & sometimes the review source. It's not much of a gain, but it's something. Still you're best bet is to try to appraise a review yourself before putting any stock in it, including comparing it to the press releases and looking for evidence of actual testing by the reviewer.
Perusing a products support forums can sometimes be helpful to see if there are some key, recurrent probs. Also, if you want to pay attention to user reviews (e.g., on sites like Amazon or newegg.com, etc.), be sure there are plenty of reviews and look for the overwhelming view, rather than the ocassional pushover's ecstasy or apoplectic's dissapointment.

Yes, forums are the best places to get honest opinions of a product. The only organization that you can rely on (this side of the pond) is Consumer Reports, but they don't do software - at least I've never read of any.

Just like to add the bad-services from such a company. I've written 3 emails to support on my problem with the usb mouse freezing when using ATI Home 2010 build 6053. Latest status is still no reply from support. I just paid for a hopeless support from such a company. I'm now using another backup software from N***** as I need to perform important weekly backup of my data.

Hello all,
We are really sorry for the delay with the response and for the difficulties you've experienced with Acronis software.
Our Development and QA teams are working hard to improve the software and fix all current issues. They're trying to make a good and reliable software.
Unfortunately, I can't give you a roadmap (our company policy prohibits me from doing so), however, if you have any specific issues or suggestions on how to improve the software, please reply to this thread and I'll pass your feedback to the responsible persons/departments.
Once again, accept our profound apologies for the inconvenience.
Thank you.
