is reboot required after install (before first use)

Thread needs solution

I have unfortunately inherited a Windows XP machine running a critical business app and it's hard drive is failing. I want to hot-plug a sata drive and clone the existing system drive to a new drive asap.

If I install Acronis True Image 2014, is a reboot required before I'd be able to use the software? I want to avoid a reboot because it may not come back up.

thanks.

You can use the TrueImage Recovery CD to do all its functions. An installaltion is not necessary.
You can clone from the bootable CD.
After the clone, shutdown and reboot with only the new disk attached. Don't boot with both attached on first boot after cloning.

If you need to create the CD, register the 2014 serial with Acronis and the registering will make the 2014 download files accessbiel into your webaccount.

Then, you can download the ISO file and it can be burnt to CD as the normal TI Recovery CD.

Thank you for your help. Any way to clone the drive without taking the machine offline? (I don't want to shut it down and boot from CD.)

Don't know as I have never tried it. Perhaps a technician volunteer may respond if they see this--but a response may not be right away.

It is possible to clone from within Windows. No reboot necessary after an install unless it explicitly asks for it.

Added: As is is possible to do a siccessfi; backup while computer is in use, I wold thinik a clone would be possible as well.
